You'll notice posts on this forum by Lucien Morareau who introduces himself as an "amateur historian".

In fact this man is THE specialist of WWII French naval aviation. He has written a few books and lots of magazine articles on the subject.

Some of these captured planes had an interesting career indeed. The best ones were used by the Luftwaffe (at least the ones who were available in great quantities): Dewoitines D.520s as advanced trainers and Leo 451s were converted to fast transports.

"Second choice" fighters such as the Curtiss H-75 and the MS.406 were delivered to the Finns. The extra D.520s captured in 1942 were handed out to the Italians and Hungarians who used them as fighters. If I remember well the Hungarians claim (a-hem) several P-38s and B-24s shot down with D.520s.
