So if you got a 3ds model (with high, medium and low detail lods
) you just need a programm wich converts 3ds files to a file
format used in sm files/OpenPlaneStudio. There are two ways I know:
Get 3DMAX (V3 is the best) import your 3ds file and export it with the MAX2OBJ export plugin and the scripts from Bryan Russell (who maked OPS) to obj format. There are alot of topics related to this (just search the forum for "MAX" or "OBJ" or something like this).
Get ACD3D for 40$ and read Svīs tutorials (You should read them anyway - they helped me alot - good stuff !!!)
Also read the OpenPlane documentations at the OpenPlane side to learn something about the structure of sm files and OpenPlane.
The hardest thing is to get all the parts imported to OPS in the correct position. You could position them by hand but thats not so easy (for me).
I hope this helps you to get started.
