I can make the engine a child of the radiator. When the radiator is destroyed it kills the engine. Is there any way to delay the engine kill for 3 or 4 minutes.

I can add "obkill delay" to the radiator and/or engine, but this just effects when the item is deleted.

It works like this. I added white smoke to the radiator when it is destroyed / added "obkill delay" 30 seconds. As soon as the radiator is killed the engine is killed but the smoke continues for the 30 seconds.

Any suggestions.

Spanky here...

Thats a brilliant plan man and will add one more level of detail and realism to the game. I can't see it being that hard but i don't have any advice besides what you already tried. It seems like you might have messed up where the obkill delay goes and tagged it to the smoke instead of the engine.

Can we damage the engine enought to make it sputter for a couple minutes and then die out?

Now that would be cool

Ive talked to Michael Harrison about this. Ive tried setting the engine max rpm to a lower value after some set amount of damage. The problem is that the engine sputter is in the SDOE engine code, not Openplane. I dont know if he was planning on moving a call (EngSputter?) to Openplane or not.

Oh and also, engine sound pitch is currently set to throttle, not rpm or manifold pressure. Decreasing the rpm manually had an effect but the engine still sounded like it was fine and running normally.

Thanks Falck, That was my next question.

Spanky, Just wait. I added an oil pan to the bottom of the engine and Zoycite made the pistons stick up from the fuselage. All will take damage as it should. Smoke, fire or explode from the proper locations.

I just have not been able to delay the engine kill. I can have the radiator or oil pan destroyed with one shot to produce smoke and/or fire, but it kills the engine with their death.

If I could only get the engine to delay 3 or 4 minutes after the radiator or oil pan is destroyed.

I have been looking into this delay thing for months! I found that the ONLY form of delay is that obKilldelay. But like you said, it deletes the whole engine. That just wont work.
