Heya all,

I have been struggling with transparent textures. I cant seem to get them to work. I can edit exsisting transparent textures, make a lod transparent, but anytime I try to make a new transparent texture, it doesnt work.

Any suggestions, step by step or general help for making transparent textures for SDOE will be greatly appreciated.

I am using PhotoShop and or Corel incase you might be wondering.

Thanks in advance,

I couldn't get it to work with Corel either, but have no problem with Photoshop. You just add an alpha chanel and then paint that chanel with tones of grey. Pure black will be totally transparent, white not transparent at all and various shades of grey will be partly transparent. I made a spinning prop texture from scratch this way and it works all right.

Zoy,

I believe in Corel-Photo Paint you can make a mask and then save it as an alpha channel...that may work.

I can do some research when I get home.

When using an alpha chanel in a texture:

1. Make sure the flags are set in the .asc file to allow use of a transparent alpha layer. Look at the prop or a canopy to see this value.

2. Make sure the poly texture flags in the LOD itself is set to use alpha. Look at a canopy poly or a shadow poly in the .LOD file.

If you take a look at the shadow tutorial at my site you will see what flag values to use...

I am not sure how to do transparent LODS that don't use alpha chanels though...

Thanks Dan and Sv for the reply,

I think that its the flag bit in the asc. I will have to have a look. If I can get what I'm trying to do to work, then I will be a very happy camper

Thanks again guys
