If I have a face like this:|xxxx|xxxx|xxxxx| .----.----.-----. And I want to make this: |xxxx|xxxx|xxxxx| .----.----.-----. |xxxx|xxxx|xxxxx| .----.----.-----. Is there any way to clone the bottom points of the first object and drag them down creating the new faces? TS ------------------ ________________________ TS Aircombat

Yes, using your edit mesh modifier, go into edit vertex mode. Highlight said vertices and then hold down left shift and at the same time your left mouse button and drag the vertices where you want them to end up. When you release the mouse button it'll ask you if you want to clone the part as part of the original, or as a new element. Choose what works best in your case and that's it!Hope that helps you. (You have to have that little 4 arrow icon, the move icon, pushed in order to do this) [This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 01-03-2000).] IP: Logged |

X XYou need to use the non-breaking space Spyder: & n b s p ; just don't put spaces between the letters there. Now if you make a face with non-breaking spaces you really need to get a life If you take time to post about how to make a face with non-breaking spaces then you shouldn't bother trying to get a life, it is too late -Sv [This message has been edited by Sv (edited 01-03-2000).] IP: Logged |

I just tried the Shift drag thing on the verticies, it just copies the points and doesn't create the edges and face. (I'm left with my original object with a bunch of unconnected points underneath it). TS

Thats what it should do. Now you need to build up the faces. You could also have tried using face sub-object and shift-dragging the faces. You would then need to weld the new verts IP: Logged |

Face Sub Object? Ok will give it a shot. Keep at it Spyder : ) Oh I think I found a couple bugs in OPStudio.. -When I load up the FW190 and rotate the rudder it rotates the opposite direction I am dragging but the other parts rotate OK. -The X Y Z buttons on the toolbar are always grayed out so I can't rotate parts along one axis. -If you delete an instrument dial and click on the yellow arrow in the 3d view for the deleted item it causes a page fault. I managed to get my Yak bits into OPStudio and sort of line things up.. it flies great ! Now on to texturing.. TS

I just discovered the keyboard shortcuts for rotating and moving parts in OPStudio. It lets you move each part on it's axis. DOH ! IP: Logged |

TS, I'm probably missunderstanding your question, but couldn't you just extrude the faces? [This message has been edited by JT (edited 01-03-2000).] IP: Logged |

Hey Extruding the faces sort of works. I'm trying to create a new section of faces on the end of a plane that match and connect to the ones that are already at the end of the plane (side view) .--. I want to become .--.--. When I do a face extrude I get this: .--. |xx| .--. (a cube) if I delete the corners of the cube I don't need I get this: . | .--. which is close to what I want but the new faces are angled 90 degrees to the existing faces. Clear as mud hehe TS

Hmm, I'm not exactly clear on what you're trying to do. Do you think you could take some screenshots?IP: Logged |

Well, I think I get it, so I'll take a shot...Bear in mind that I use Max 2.5, so some of this might be different for you... First, make the two parts editable meshes. Then attach one part to the other using the "attach" button (the attach button is available under the edit mesh panel, but only when sub-object mode is not activated). Next, go into sub-object mode by activating the sub-object button. Make sure "faces", as opposed to vertices or edges, is selected from the menu. Scroll down the edit mesh panel a bit. You will see a list of buttons. The "build face" button allows you to build faces between any three verts. Simply press the "build face" button and then left click on one vert, then pick a second, and then a third. The face will appear. You may need to flip the normal, depending on which direction you built the face, clockwise or counter-clockwise. Anyway, that's a handy tool for manually building faces. IP: Logged |

I think your first idea's easier .. I can extrude the bottom faces, chop away the extra set of points then drag the others down where I want them and they'll be already faced and edged. It's good to know how to manually build a face though I didn't know about that.. TS IP: Logged |
