Want to do it without the headaches? This is "harder," but it will work... 1. Find another object that has the number of sub-level .lods you want. Copy the object. Paste it as a child at the same level as the object you want to have more .lods. 2. Use SMD/OLC to break the .sm down into its .lod parts. Take the original part and copy it as Lod1 of the "placeholder part" you copied in. Now your "substitute" part has the same first .lod, and 2 .lods that look wrong. 3. Modify the lower level .lods of the substitute part to their proper appearance. 4. Use OLC to rebuild the .sm. 5. Open in OPS, and copy the properties from the original part to the substitute part. Now you have TWO of the original part, one with lower-level .lods. 6. Delete the original part. 7. Move the substitute part to the location of the original. Save the .sm file. 8. Reopen the .sm file and rename the substitute parts to the name of the original parts. Complex, but it will work the first time, unlike .lod import, which is...inconsistent ------------------ --jedi-- IP: Logged |

Heres what I do!-Add LOD (If it already has a 1st level LOD, make sure the distance of that 1st level LOD isnt below 10000 and above 255000000) -Click on the background of OPS without selecting anything (One click away from the aircraft) -Save -Exit OPS -Restart OPS -Load up the plane/object -Make the 0.00 LOD active (If it doesnt read 0.00 make it so) -Import LOD -Save -Exit OPS -Redo the whole process for each LOD This may not work EVERY time, but the process IS proven. Rendsburger, after you create the new LOD, save, exit and bring OPS back up you have to make that 0.00 "inviso" LOD active and then import your LOD onto that. When you create a new LOD from scratch in OPS it will be invisible! [This message has been edited by ArgonV (edited 08-07-2001).] IP: Logged |

I build all my planes with OL tools and ONLY use OPS for OP stuff. All model work is done with AC3D and OL Tools.I find it's a lot easier to do it that way then having to mess with OPS since it crashes a lot when trying to import things. Though since I'm learning MAX I may have to start doing that unless we can get someone to get a LOD plug-in for max. IP: Logged |

I got this working some time ago, and posted about how to do it.(BTW, you MUST import a LOD file FIRST, not any other kind of file, ie obj, vrml) Here you go: http://www.fightersquadron.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/001167.html ------------------ =V67th= "Naturlich" "SDOE... Great Ren Yeah, you MUST import a LOD first and then save, afterwards you can import the proper obj file. As a matter of fact, it realy doesn't matter which LOD you import, you could save a single LOD file in a folder and use that same one all the time, just making sure that you import the proper obj file later I'm just glad you were able to sort this out. ~Nat~ IP: Logged |
