I noticed that there are some 3DS-objects of tanks and guns in the object-editor package of Panzer Elite I downloaded today. Could not find a copyright-notice but then again.... you could always ask them.

The Panzer Elite Development Group made a Britpack but I would be very, very polite before using anything. The Lennort brothers made a Panzerpack with Soviet tanks. The same applies before using anything. I started a Soviet T-60 and a T-26 light tank in AC3D but never finished them.

Can these 3DS-files be used for a new drivable ground-unit? Is there a FAQ or How-to describing the process.

Is there a separate SM-file available for the Matilda tank? Or can I only download the whole Drivable Groundobjects-pack?

Actually, I too have many 3ds models of tanks from H & D just waiting to be motorised. You know the BMW R75 Sidecar in the Ground Pack? The model for that was a 3ds taken straight from H & D. I'm not sure about Copyright issues, it's probably worth checking out before going further. Da Jug Head sent me some cool 3ds models for the Jagdpanther and Panther to be put into the Pack, but they needed lots of work to reduce their polys (they were VERY detailed) so I hope to work on these soon. I am also thinking of extracting the Tiger I from the H & D and motorising that too if all goes well with Copyright issues, etc, so yes, this can be done.

It is not an easy procedure, I am working on a tutorial for motorising ground objects in SDOE, but my time working on the GP has slowed its progress. I hope to resume work on it though soon. Nat also made a T34 static ground object a while back with excellent DM effects, this can be converted to a drivable unit easier than starting from 3ds models if you want to try.

As for a seperate Matilda, at the moment, no. You'll have to download and install the GP. I hope to release the pack vehicles as seperate zips though in the future though. If you want, email me and I'll send you the Matilda for now if you really want it.

Hi Guys, the "experimental" T34 I did was close to the pinicale of what we can do with static ground units, but the model does need some drastic poly reduction, now I have a fast machine it probably wouldn't be so bad, but I do remember how it would rely slow down my K62-550. Still, that being said, anyone wanting to work on it is very free to do so.

On another point though, I know making drivable ground units isn't a fast process, what I personaly would like to see is these 3DS models being made into static units, as and when they are then developed into fully drivable units would be great, but having more ground targets is always a good thing IMO and much quicker to do.

I have found the drivable jeep and halftrack and will download them. I will search for the non drivable groundunits in the par files. Do you know which one has the standard units in it?

Thanks anyway. I will look around and wait for the tutorial.

You can find the standard non-drivable units (their sm files) for SDOE in DATA2.par.

As for the tutorial, looks like I really have to resume work on it soon. Quite a few people are waiting for it now, I don't like to keep them waiting longer than nessecary.

Though, the more I put the tutorial off, the more I learn about making these objects in the meantime and the better and more 'learned' the tutorial will be when it is finished.
