I bought FS-SDOE about two weeks ago and am still trying to get into the air and back on the airfield without breaking anything.

I am interested in buiding a 3-d model. I have some drawings of the Fokker C-VD model (1926). I tried to export a OBJ-mesh the Fokker D-VII model from OPS 1.30 Beta, but the result was a mess. I wanted the D-VII as an example and a starting point. The Fokker aircraft in the 1920's still share similarities with the WW1-planes.

Can anyone tell me how to export and import a mesh without ending up with the mess.

Whenever you export a model from OPS, make sure it has no 'children' objects. That is, make sure there are no + signs next to the model name in the model in OPS. If you want to export the fuselage of a plane or any other part with parts attached as children, be sure you delete ALL the attached parts, (don't save though) and then hit export.

Because of this, you can't export a plane as a 'whole' part as you were trying to do. All planes in SDOE have multiple parts to make them up, no plane has a single 3d model to make up the whole plane. Because the planes have multiple models, it allows for sequential damage modelling where parts can come off bit by bit and each part has its own properties (or 'props'). You have to highlight each part, make sure it has no attached parts (children) and then export the parts bit by bit.

If you export a part with a child object attached to it, that object too will be exported and you'll end up with a mess as you described.

Oh and by the way, when importing parts, the stuff I said above shouldn't matter (ie, children parts, etc), just import as normal and the children parts won't be affected.

In order to get the whole D-VII I will have to export all parts separately an glue them together again. Well lets get to work.

Thanks.

Or you could get the ol tools and then the whole plane could be imported into Ac3d via the ol file.

Do I need a plug-in for AC3D? In that case I have a problem. I have only the unregistered version of AC3D without the possibility to use plug-ins.

Yes I know AC3D is not that expensive. I really like it. Did not take me to long to learn.
