Heres a pic of what I'm making at the moment. It has about 6,000 vertices.
Everytime I delete/cut/copy/paste/anything it takes about 5 seconds to do. That includes other objects I'm wrking on as well. At the start everything runs smoothly.
And I have plenty of power.

I don't use AC3D, but I'm guessing it has something to do with your graphics drivers. The other day I tried installing the latest Detonator drivers for my TNT, SDOE ran nice, Openplane Studio hardly ran at all. Everything was in slow-mo. Could be a RAM issue. I'm not sure.

You using a lot of polys and the more you use the slower it will run.

It's the same way with MAX ,Lightwave or any other 3D program.

It's all the polygons and vertices floating around on the screen. We don't see this while making planes for SDOE since we don't normally go over 2000.

Because it is $40

Mine runs VERY slow as well, like about 10 seconds everytime I select anything. Also I see no bounding boxes

But, this was with my VoodooIII and Voodoo5 card - on my new Elsa G-force2 card AC3D runs VERY fast and NO bugs!!!!!

Razer do you mean that a normal plane in SDOE has only 2000 vertices? I read someone say they used 284 in a canopy???

Harman I wish it was. At the moment I only have the trial version of AC3D. Therefore I can't save anything I do. But I plan on getting the full version soon. So now I just mess around with ideas I have.

Thanks for the link Snake.

Another thing, I have the evaluation version too, I'm pretty sure you can still 'export' the parts you make in WRL format.

When Razer sent me his model for the Willys' Jeep, it was in .ac format. I thought for a while I couldn't get it out of there, but I tried, and the eval. AC3D version allows you to export the parts.

From there, I converted the Jeep from WRL to 3DS format, and finally to .obj format so I could get it into my 3D editor, Anim8or.

Anim8or is a good start actually, it's free, (Rendsburger made his Ju52 with it) and the best thing about it is it allows you to export your 3D parts directly as .obj format which is what is needed to get them into OpenPlane Studio, so that means no fiddling with other tools and extractors. It can also import/export 3ds and lightwave (.lwo) formats. Go here for Anim8or download, tutorials and more:

Well Snake, most of the planes in SDOE were less then 2000 but that's a number I shoot for now when building.

My cockpits also have a little more then 284.
