Just got a layout of the PBY instrument panel. Upper lefthand corner has the rudimentary ILS needles. Can SDOE support this?IP: Logged |

can you show us a pic of it Snickers..You can create a dial that will qry the nearest control tower, this could give you a needle the moves left to right and vice versa to guide you in, but the altitude needle for ILS would be harder, although you could use the same qry to use a needle to start high at long range, and move down as you get closer to give you a flight path, it would be some amount of messing around, but I think it could be done IP: Logged |

I don't think they had this in WW2 Your picture is probably of a restored plane that has had the ILS added.A lot of the cockpits you see for sims like CFS and CFS2 are based on photos of real planes, but real planes being flown NOW, which means they've got electronics added to fly around in the skies of 2001, not 1941. I'd be very surprised if a real wartime PBY had anything more sophisticated than an ADF needle in it.

Actually, one of the flight crew positions for the PBY was electroncs tech. She had some fairly sophisticated fire control equipment. (Timed intervals for ripple fire and more) The PBY was a plane of firsts, but I dont know for sure when the ILS was included... Time for research...IP: Logged | |
