How does OpenPlane know where to put your aircraft so it lines up with teh ground? My SE5a starts with the tail wheel just under the ground... but if I move it up, it is above the bottom of my plane. In both cases, the SE5a tail sinks under the ground

I thought I read about coords used as a guide... but I can't find anything in the OpenPlane doc about this

Anyone have a clue?

Thanks!

In the main aircraft prop list, there is an obWheels property stating left wheel, right wheel and tail (or nose) wheel (which is always last) in XYZ coords.

Thanks ArgonV!!!

I think that this bad data is what causes the SE5a to start in a spin - but maybe not. Right now the Se5a starts in the most besiar maner in the air - like a spinning top

Easiest way to check that is to copy the Pups obWheel coords to the SE5a.

I still think its a cyl airfoil causing that particular problem. I had the same problem with a cyl airfoil on the torpedoes when I was testing them. Jedi also said he had that problem with his dambuster bomb.

Well I got the wheels lined up - by actualy creating the triangle poly in AC3D between the wheels, then merging with the fuselage. Then I just got those coords, perfect!

But that wasn't the problem...

Turns out, somewhere along the way, the tail wheel lost it's DOF! I added it back, BINGO! Problem solved

Now I am on to that air-start issue... thanks for the tip ArgonV.

Removing the cyl airfoil did not help

It seems to start with a huge rotation... too much to be just from entering in sideways... it is flipping around at about 3 complete rotations per second...

LoL Maybe your aircraft is defined as a prop then!

Sv, I THINK I found your problem... Its the LVStab causing this. Delete the airfoil properties from this and delete the reference in the main aircraft prop list. I did and that rapid spinning went away!

Ok after more testing I have come to the conclusion that the above was indeed the problem. Yea! I can now dogfight with this baby, play the landing mission and the cockpit bombing missions at last!

ArgonV,

I have NO idea why that airFoil is doing that, but you are right! How the hell did you figure that out???

You are THE man with this stuff!!!!

I will try to make the airfoil work without that nast side-effect...

Thanks again

Sv, LoL actually I took a wild guess. I asked my self "Now if this WAS an airfoil problem, what airfoil would cause a plane to spin?" Well the answer to that is simple, a vertical stabilizer airfoil since the arrow points left instead of up. I then looked and saw that there were 2 vertical stabilizers and I removed the lesser of the two.

Why the hell it causes the plane to spin is beyond me...
