Hi all,
My question it's abouth sm files.
How the best way to make a 'Blank' (clean File) file (sm format)when I want to copy/past with openplaneStudio to make a new file for a Plane in sm format.
I only experience with FST format with OL(tools),but I must to have always a default file from a base model and have many problems with exepcted errors and record messagens of errors. And with a posicion of Lod files.Reposicions of a lod parts it's a crazy lost of time!!
Please Help me to understand another ways for this.
Many thanks for all.
With my Best regards.

I am only aware of one plane built from scratch (Geckos MIG 15), all others were based on existing models..... But when you find out, let me know too, please

Saludos

Hello friend, like you walk?
I believe that a base model should always be had, since you/he/she is not the possibility of new page in OP. Perhaps you can eliminate the original, after having hit your object, and then re-escribirlo, alone it is an occurrence, perhaps be me mistaken.

Greetings

Try it with the crates, they have only 1 LOD and one texture file.

I guess you could make an empty SM file to build from, but I don't know why you'd want to honestly, adding level 1 LODs is easy enough, but then adding low level lods realy isn't a simple matter, you have 10 times the work to do by using a blank SM than picking a good base model, still, if you're confident enough I guess there's no reason why you couldn't use something like a tree and crates as a base, but with OPS I doubt you could use a completely blank SM

As far as I know, there is no way to create a new aircraft from scratch, and I don't think that Gecko did that - if you did Gecko, let us know how!

There is no problem starting with an existing aircraft, it is not like you have to keep the full tree structure the way it is. Although we start with an aircraft, the final product has nothing to do with the original aircraft.

Another plus of starting with an existing aircraft: you can (and should) test the aircraft in SDOE after EVERY update! Make sure it can still fly and that the AI can fly it. You will find that you will break things often, but this way you will know what broke it so you don't go to far down a wrong path.

For example, I was not testing the AI with my Fokker DVIII. Then, when I was done, I learned that the AI would nut even try to fly the aircraft! No one could tell why, everything was PERFECT! So I rolled back to earlier and earlier versions... all the way back to version 3 (out of about 30). This is the version that killed the AI. What was it???

That was the step I removed the mid and lower wings from the starting aircraft... the Fokker triplane. But why did this hurt the AI? There were still two valid wings left... right and left wings.

It turns out that in OpenPlane you MUST have at least 4 airObjects or the AI thinks the aircraft is doomed. I broke my 2 top wings in half like the WW2 planes, it fixed it!!!!

So you see, it is very helpful to start with an existing aircraft... and you pay no penalty for it. What is the down side? Plus, there is no way to start fresh right now, not even in Multigen Creator (as far as I know)...

One of the biggest advantages to starting with an "in game" plane is that you can pick the one that flies most like the one you want to model, i.e. if you want to make a Ki-43 Oscar, start with the Zero model. That way, your flight model is halfway done. Trust me on this: you don't want to have to do the FM from scratch An added advantage is that the plane will actually fly at all stages of your modeling development, which is important when you want to test the landing gear and flaps and so forth.

Hi all,
Since Already I thank your contribution about of this subject.
your ideas are very valid and never liked that this subject vosse forgotten being since already always your disposal. Another quetão is concerning documentation on used OpenPlane engine for our FSDOE, where to adequirir Activision where after all? I have all the possiveis documents announced by all you in this forum but I think that he is very little. I do not know if this idea that I go to present will be new but, because not to request all the documents on programming of the FSDOE Activision?
Ok does not have to be an idea if by chance this already was carried through liked that they informed me about of this subject.
My obliged greater since already to all. With your ideas I go to continue my models. My priority at this moment is my new C-47 Skytrain and my F84G.

Well, Sv, of course I couldn't start with a completely new file as that is not possible so far. I just took a plane (I can't remember which one), deleted all the objects apart from the base one, then deleted all the properties for that one as well (including positioning via smd/olc). After that I created subparts from copying that empty part onto itself and naming them appropriately so upon importing from an .obj file they got their correct models.

So, it's not completely from scratch, but not exactly building on an existingplane either.

Of course, I now have problems of including the pilot .
