I *think* Bryan or MH or anyone with in-depth knowledge of the code *might* be able to shed some light on this: Installed Windows 2000 yesterday, and I want to run SDOE on it. It runs fine in the menus, start a mission and it runs for 10-15 seconds, when it hangs with a empty popup saying something about HeapLibrary. Is this part of SDOE code or is it my drivers that aren't correct somewhere, you think?

Asus A7V, Duron 900, TNT2 w/latest drivers, Win2K SP1 etc.

Please, no need to tell me I should run SDOE in Win 98. I don't want to, since I just got this 46Gb disk and I've decided to run single-OS on it. Anyone help?

/Alexander

It sounds like the SDOE memory manager, does it say anything useful?

In any case before you look into it further you should get and install SP1 for Win2000, and the latest compatibility patch.

SDOE is mentioned in one of the compatibility patches. (the latest includes all the compatibility patches). I think its only a install problem that it fixes but it won't hurt.

BTW SDOE runs fine for me, except that in D3D it locks up sometimes, but it pretty much does that for all D3D apps... OpenGL/software it works fine, so the game itself is OK.

And I won't tell you that you should probably duel boot if you want to play games without hassles

First of all, thanks for not telling me to dualboot :-D Nah, it doesn't say anything in the HeapLibrary window. Figured it was something about the compatibility patch, and as usual I managed to write and whine beore reading about the compatibilty patch. I'll look into it tonight and report my findings. A quickie: You s'pose the installer would have a problem with a 40Gb partition? (It crashes horribly when trying to install, lucky I remember how to install manually :-D)

Thanks,
Alexander

Installed Compatibility Update - No go.
Latest Beta (76?) - Works, but my throttle is gone...?

Hello
I am running SDOE on a PIII 500 with 384 meg of memory and a Diamond Viper Ultra 770 32 meg card. I use a the Microsoft ForceFeedback stick and have no problems on Win2000 with sp1 and DirectX8a. I actually installed in under windows 98 and then just moved the directory to my 2000 box and I have no problems(It wouldnt install on 2000) it sounds like a device driver for your video card to me.

I have all the latest Critical Updates on it to (with reboot on GPF turned off).

You got SP1 right?

Anyway, some people have found that if they update the latest Wingman Profiler or what ever you have for other joysticks it helps.

It probably has something to do with the betas using more axis for the multiple throttle thing.

I think there is a problem with the installer under win2000 regardless of disk size

Hm... The strange thing is that I get a lot of weird graphical artifacts, like some cloud layer flickering in and out of existence, when doing D3D under beta build 76. I'll try and change the video card drivers tonight or tomorrow, but in the meantime - is DX8a something to have or something to discard?

If you have the 6.5 det drivers, it crashes AOK, so I imagine that they have other issues as well.

Okay, here's what I've done so far:

System is a Duron 900, Asus A7V. Riva TNT2 graphics card.

Installed:
Win2000 pro
AMD 4-in-1 drivers 4.28
VIA AGP HotFix
Detonator 7.52 drivers
SDOE

Result:
BSOD when trying to fly a mission. Has *anyone* gotten standard-SDOE to work under Win2K with an AMD processor? I'll try the beta later tonight, see what happens. Anyone got a good lead on what's screwed?

Tried every detonator/graphics driver I could think of. No go. *sigh*

Any beta working in win2k as of now?
