Iīve add an airfield from Rhineland terrain to the tundra terrain. The airfield works,AI will Take off and try to land on it.The problem is,itīs hidden. You canīt see the airfield. Then i have hidden the terrain tile, where the airfield should be,now i have a big blue hole in the area and the terraintile is still working, that means it is not flat like an airfield.
Any ideas?

aaaahhh...airfields!

There is a 'plug' tile which has to be put in. Also, you need to make sure the relative co-ords of the basic model for the airfield and the tile it sits on match properly. Otherwise, you get problems.

WT,
i made a big step forward ,now the airfield is visible, but red with no texture.I copied the rhineland airfield textures into the airfield tundra textures folder, renamed the path in OPS butitīs still red.

Another problem: AI take off from the airfield, but i think he didnīt use the end of the runway,he startīs from the middle (the big cross at darmstadt airfield),while i canīt see the texture itīs hard to say where the plane start from.
One more problem: AI didnīt land at the airfield, after reaching all waypoints he is straight heading to the north!
Last problem: All things i add in OPS is a child of what is still there. This means that OPS put all things i add to tundra into the terrain tile group, this looks not similar tot the other terrains, how can i add something that is not a child?

Ren.. you have no idea what you're getting into LOL But please carry on getting into it Tail has worked long and hard to learn what he knows about airfields and I know it wasn't easy, currently he's the only one that knows about them so if you learn this stuff we'll all benefit from it

Now i have copied the hole tundra terrain tiles into the rhineland terrain. The airfield worked since to the moment i changed the path to a tundra airfield.Itīs the same airfield, only in a tundra folder. Then the texture didnīt shows up,all is red and i notice that the airfield didnīt work. Maybe i have to change more than the path in the terrain.sm,but what?
In the moment i have the tundra terain with the green rhineland airfield.LOL

Let me get this right. Is the mesh in the picture Rhineland or Tundra? Where is your tundra airfield tiff located? Do you have a airfields/Tundra folder with your airfield tiffs in it?

If you send me your SM, I can take a look at it.

Diego,i have fixed the texture problem, now the only problem is to get this airfield working.
What i have done:
Copy the hole tundra terrain into the rhineland.sm .
Put a copy of airfield8.sm and airfields.sm into the new tundra folder i created in the airfield folder.
Now i changed all airfield8 terrain tif path,so it works correct now.
Then i changed the path in terrain tundra.sm from rhineland/airfield8.sm to tundra/airfield8.sm .Same done with the airfields.sm .
Airfield appear in the mission editor but plane is not set to the runway in game!

PS iego,do you have time to paint the airfield tifs?

I ran into the same problem with the Pacific terrain. The planes wont recognize the airfield. What you must have done is SAVED the airfield while you were in ops. There is a line in there that says do not save this file or something like that. TailGunner will correct me if I'm wrong. Try a fresh copy of the airfield8 SM and make your changes using Hippies tools. This will keep the airfield starting points intact.

I can paint texture your airfield. send it my way with the surrounding tiles. There is a problem with the edge of the airfield tile showing up if you dont blend it in correctly.

Glad to have someone else take interest in terrains. It gets pretty crazy sometimes but, its all worth it in the end!

it's not enough to just add the airfield to the terrain, you also need to add the airfield in the Names.ppf to the terrain and name it

There is a property list which doesn't show up in OPS for some reason. If you look at the OL file, you will find it. This contains a list of both runway co-ordinates ( so the planes land and takeoff where they should ) and a list of startup points for each runway. All are co-ordinates, relative to the airfield origin.

If you lose the prop-list, the plane gets stuck in the middle of no-where! It's really quite annoying! Happened to me on a few of the Pacific terrain fields. I changed the trees about and found the whole thing went screwy....

Mind you, the next bit is the nasty one....makign a new airfield tile that fits the terrain....

Ok, i will try all things out and report later.

Nat, i made e few fake terrains before this and i never had problems with the names.I changed the rhinelandwinter airfields and city names to russian ones and it shows up in Missioneditor correct and no working problems.

WT,
the airfield fit exactly in the terrain.I made a new tile, the one with the airfield hole. The rest was easy, just set the pointcoords to the right place.

Diego, i want to add a few airfields more,i donīt know wich one i will use in the moment. If happend, then i send the tifs to you.
