Heres a kick ass idea that I just thought of. Its really bad then let me down gently
Ok here my idea: Recently I have been flying as realistic as possible missions in SDOE. Like Spitfire 1a v Bf-109E4 or Thunderbolts v FW-190A8 etc. I have been flying the Bf-109's a lot in these missions (which your welcome to have if you want them) and I always notice those cool ammo counters that DON'T work. Now my idea is to get these to work.

I am assuming in SDOE that the dials that display airspeed move when airspeed changes etc? Well how about making a really big dial that fits behind the instrument panel. Then making a hollow bit in the ammo counters. Now link the big needle to the ammo left and hey presto you have a working ammo counter. Basically you would see the bit of the needle thru the hole in the counter.

Now the question is, will this work? I don't have a clue about anything Openplane etc so I am justing guessing things about the dials.

BTW this is the result of me daydreaming in school.

Instruments are fun to imagine.. In fact, creating the D.520's double scale speedometer and disc altimeter was very challenging and almost fun

(as panels are basically a tedious job)

The key problem is there is no way to link something to the ammo left. In OpenPlane there is no obQuery for this data. We should include this in the patch wishlist (coolant temp is missing also)

I know the Dauntless had a counter hooked up to the twin .50's in front....they look like the dials on an odometer, but they obviously go backwards....jedi has the pics

the way to do this is basiclay like this... (untried)

Currently you can have rotating magazines ontop of ww1 gund right, and depending how you set the DOF depends on how much it moves..

now, if a person were clever with DOF's, a rotating dial (or 3, side by side) could be made to rotate to correct amount while the trigger is pressed, drum 1 rotates less than drun2, which is less than drum 3 (100's, 10's, 1's)

Each "drum" is mapped with the numbers 1 - 0 similar to how the mag. compass is done.

Well, there you go, the easy way to make an ammo counter.

I guess the big problem comes when you're out of ammo but the drums keep turning when you pull the trigger.. but hey, maybe someone can elaborate on the idea.
