I am thinking of jumping into this open plane thing and need the "Open Plane For Dummies" edition.I have made lots of planes for Microsoft FS98 but that is a very easy to use program and is very limited. I know making planes for this sim is way, way harder and would require several programs. One question first. I have messed with True Space and found tweeking points almost as much fun as sitting on a nail while watching The flintstones II! What is a good 3d program that would make shaping a plane up easy for an amatuer? Another question first next. Do I really want to do this or do I just want to lay down and explain why my father made me eat liver and brocoli. ------------------ Hawk Forum manager and bar keep http://rcwarbirds.com/ IP: Logged |

No contest here!AC3D no question. It's simple to use, gives excellent results, and for £25 to register, is cheaper than the opposition. I tried endless free modellers before I bit the bullet, and ...er...got someone to buy it for me...well, I did all the video of her wedding....thanks sis! anyway.... There is a wealth of experience on the forum It's simple to use Easy to learn Doesn't involve half the hassle of 3dmax ( which I also have, but can't get used to) plugins for lod import / export supports tif textures allows background images for 3 views... who uses it... ME! Razer SV ( his tutorials are good) The PBY was built with it, as were the B17 bits, and my B24, the Mc triplets...razers p38, the Ki61..... and I'm not even on commission! IP: Logged |

I'd have to agree on AC3D, I use Max, but still some of the major things I need to do are much simpler in AC3D, infact, offen times I give parts to an AC user for them to apply even smoothing because I've altered the model and Max simply refuses to smooth it anymore, and as Tail says, there are some very good tutorials to help out.IP: Logged |

It's available online, and registration gets you access to the full version download, and updates. It is still fully supported. http://www.comp.lancs.ac.uk/computing/users/andy/ac3d/reg.html has all the details. Registry is over RegNet, and is o.k.

Well, my tutorials are a little out of date - but it will give you some good hints about things like how the LOD file works, the basic process, and how to use a background image to create objects to scale. You can look here: http://www.schoolmusic.com/chickencoop/se5a/index.htm AC3D is wonderful, thanks to Andy for creating it and Hippie for selecting it to make his great plugins for ------------------ -Sv Wings with Wires IP: Logged |
