After deciding that i want to start designing and remodelling aircraft i downloaded OPS from their website.

My problem is that when i load an .sm file into the program..i only see the plane model but i get the following error message at the bottom regarding other .s files and tif textures.

I am opening the just unbigged parfile(data15) into my c arfiles\data15 directory. I then am selecting the FokkerDr1aDmg.sm file. When it opens it says the following:

CMSTexture : Unable to load "./aircraft/FokkerDr1A/textures/FokkerDr1aDmg.TIF"
CMSTexture : Unable to load "./aircraft/cockpit/Generic/textures/crosshair.inta"
CMSTexture : Unable to load ./aircraft/FokkerDr1a/textures/FokkerWingTopDmg.tif

CMSTexture : Unable to load ./aircraft/FokkerDr1a/textures/FokkerwingBottomDmg.tif

Preferences:
C:\Program Files\Fighter Squadron\Media\Aircraft\FokkerDr1A_2\textures\

I am also unclear as to what b.russel mentioned in the general preferences tab, if you could give me an example file and give me the correct path preferences settings i would be very grateful.

I have the following programs too, if you think that i'm lacking something let me know AC3D/Hippies Tools/Bigmunger/Photoshop/Tiffcp/Irfanview(default viewer).

I have tried to follow the tutorial on SV's OP webpage but it doesn't discuss what i need to know, i have also checked all the forums...see helpful hints but nothing that indicates what i'm doing wrong.

Plse help me, I would also really appreciate it if you could email me an example folder (which definately works)and required pathway.

Also i'm unable to view .tif files in AC3D, although i think i have the plugin???.

I am at my wits end..someones gotta help me or this is one designer who only lasted for a day!!.

Thank you

James

PS Many thanks to all online flyers for their help, although noone was able to solve my problem.

It probably means that you haven't extracted the textures from the parfile too. Also, it may be that the file structure you have isn't defined in OPS. Under preferences, you set the path to the fighter squadron directories. If the textuers aren't where it expects them, OPS won't display them!

The preferences shouldn't include the specific texture directory either.

first though, check that you have extracted the textures.

Thank you TG for your reply but i'm still at a loss. I have no idea where to put the aircraft folder i want to view and how to set the preferences in OPS so it is able to load them.

Everybody has basically said what you said, but hasn't made it easy for complete idiots like myself!.

I am at the stage of seeing whether my PC will float in the bath, if you get my drift.

What i need is an example aircraft folder (which definately works)(with proper structure for textures to appear) and a clear indication (ie written down) of how to set up my preference pathway.

My email address is :jimmykage2000@netscapeonline.co.uk

Unless i get this information very soon i will be flying without a parachute from now on!

Ok, when you get those error messages, dont worry about them! They are just telling you that those files are not avaliable to view because 1. they are in the data.par files or 2. They dont exist.

Now to get the textures to show up: Make sure that there is a folder named aircraft in the Media folder. Make sure that this aircraft folder has all the planes that are in SDOE in it.

Now load up OPS. Up at the top, click on View then scroll down to Prefrences and click on it. Now in the General tab in the menu that pops up there will be the words: Media Path and a long white box next to it with another box with 3 dots in it up at the top. Click on the box with the three dots in it and then browse to the Fighter Squadron\Media\ directory and press Ok.

Now you should beable to see most of the textures for each plane you load up in OPS.

hey ace
i know what's ur problem:)
u have not specified media directory..so...have u unpached par files to any dir? if so, then go to ops-->preferences--> and set the "any" dir path..
if not then just go to fight sqaud/media :)
that's the only thing i found out til now:) altho i haven't been working at all:()

At last i see that OP is working properly!!!..many thanks for the help schaf and tailgunner!!!....why don't all textures show up is that a bug in the program?...or is it too many to show?

I've noticed that some .sm aircraft models do and some don't have textures..mainly the ones i downloaded for off line playin...99% of textures work so i can see plane textures on model.

Is there a way of getting the other textures to show?...or do i need to uncompress par files for more textures for other aircraft?

I'm so happy i have been going mad..when all the time it was just the particular plane i had chosen!!!..hehehe..stupid me!

Now it's time to learn about model building etc...no i see what you designers have been going through trying to make fm's and other stuff!...must admit though some planes in OP have hidden props and the like and look very strange!...but it must be necesary to fly plane so no comment.

once again thank you and i have to go now and start plane building/editing...think i'll start with plane builing first..more new planes the better!.

i notice that Op has plugins available..where do i get them..are they needed?.Also that the help button doesn't work, why's that?), then i wouldn't have to keep asking so many questions!.

Also related to plugins i seem to be unable to load .tif files into AC3D, i have the latest version too plus AC3D plugins from hippie. Why don't they work?..

Which is the best to use Op or AC3D?..no really gotta go now.

Big up and Happy flying everybody!
