I've never had any trouble with looking at, or uncompressing the Tifs with Irfan, I simply open the batch conversion, add all the tifs, set the output to the format I want to work on, if I'm converting back to tif I set the compression method to "none" and the run it saving them to a temp/work dir

I did my second attempt at repainting Dover last night. I used Irfanview's batch conversion, untile4, and Parsoft's dicer. Everything worked like a charm... Well except in Photoshop LE the pic is 75 megabytes *per layer*.

LOL on my previous attempts Parsoft had not released the dicer yet... I had to use ImageSplitter and rename the 400 tifs by hand

There are some notes here that you may find helpful (using irfanview and untile):

I lighten up the Rhineland terrain in less than an hour!
I used irfanview and Photopaint.
Look at Rheinland by sunshine in the General Forum!

Thanks again,

Sv, your aerodrome tutorial helped a lot here! Now, could you please tell us if that a detailed terrain zone (basically an airfield or a town) is always contained in exactly one 256*256 tile on the super texture? That would help a lot. Thanks!

Pachy,
I know your question is aimed at Sv. Are you asking if the af/town Supertifs are 256x256?
I can tell you that they are NOT! They vary in sizes from 512x512 to "off" sizes like 1536x2048. I found this out when I did the Pacific terrain. You can find out the correct size when you use Untile. I have the tile widths for Africa and Pacific if you or anyone else needs them.

I cant believe that you renamed everything by hand! If you need the Dicer I use, send me an email and I'll send it off to you. smallfile

it's a sign of the age of our tutorials LOL, back then we didn't have Dicer and had to be done by hand.. boy did that make Snowy Dover a pain in the ass lol
