high guys, I'm starting to think about getting into some plane painting & modeling. These are some stuff I've got at my disposal so far are:Bryce 4 Adobe Paintshop 5.0 Adobe Photoshop 5.0 Anim8or 3d Explorer Open Plane Studio Is this a good start? Is Bryce good for 3d aircraft modeling? Where can I find help on using these items? Any other recommend apps? I'm on a very tight budget so thing like shareware & freeware are right up my alley thanx for any help... hip63

i don't think bryce has ever been used. Right now AC3D is the best program to make planes, those i'm a little bias sicne i only use AC3D. it's only 40 bucks and the best 40 bucks i ever spent. IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Bryce 4 won't do it as far as I know cause you can't measure things, theres no way to size stuff to exact scale. You need ac3d or 3dsmax, or one of the other 3d modelers out there. I think Blender would work but it looks complicated and I don't think it works with voodoo cards.

the thing with 3d progs is mostly if you know how to use it, then it should be good enough, what it must have ofcourse is vrml97 export or obj export, aslong as you got those you should be fine, not being able to measure will be a hinderance, but it wouldn't stop you, hell just import the fuse of an aircraft that you know the length of and use that to measure, might sound crude, but it works.IP: Logged |

hip63, iīve build the Ju52 with Anim8or. Itīs a good and free tool to start modelling. Mail me if you have questions. But after a few weeks you will see, that you need a more powerfull software.Rendsburger IP: Logged |

AC3D is good because of the level of knowledge around for it. Max too, but it's on a different level....talk about a teep learning curve! The trick with the sizing Nat mentions is something I use too. I have a 'block' textured with a scale. Once you have a known size ( I used 100 feet ) texture it with a texture split up into sections...instant ruler! If you like a modelling package ( I LIKE AC3D ) then you will work well with it. If it supports the right file formats, use it! IP: Logged |

I'm a brand-spanking newbie to FS, but I have experience making panels for MS CFS and I want to try making a few panels for FS. I LOVE the p38 'realistic' and the SE5a panels! How are those kinds of panels made? I have Paint Shop Pro, will I need any other progs? ThanksIP: Logged |

Panels and the 3D cockpits of FS are two different things. Panels are just 2D images but you need to know how to do 3d modeling to do the cockpits in fighter squadron. AC3D is the best program for doing models in FS, though it's what i used so i'm a little bias. Hippe's OL extractor will let you get to the LODs in the plane files (also called SM) and the OL extractors also have a plugin for the reg. version of AC3D (only 40 bucks for the program) then you can import the parts (most cockpits are in one LOD, with each guage being a different LOD and all needles being in a LOD) I hate to say this but currently cockpits are the hardest thing to fo in FS. someone will give you links, i'm kind of busy right now.. ------------------ Tony "Razer" Martin "Making SDOE a dangerous Place, One plane at a time!" "is there a 3dsmax tutorial for plane making?"well, sort of. If you do a search on 3DS or MAX at the tech section of this messageboard you'll find old posts that pretty well describes many of the questions involved with modeling in 3DStudio. There's also good links to tutorials. You could even do a search on posts made by me 'Aui' as I've asked quite a number of questions on this topic. ritt_bear... The best way for you to see how it's done is to play around with OPStudio, try exporting one of the cockpits to obj-format and examine it in a free 3D viewer such as 'Explore 3D'. Also do some searches in the tech section and you'll understand how it works.
