Well guys, even I am in awe over this one. It seems these damned gear door DOFs are killing me! Its taking hours just to do two doors and to get them lined up and rotating in the correct spot...

I need help, serious help here. There HAS to be a better way of doing this! Right now Im just educated guessing the whole damn thing. Rotational gear door DOFs using curved doors are the worst.... I know Sv said hes going to try to do a DOF plug in for Ac3d. Well Sv, I hate to push and shove... but I need this now!!! Im sure theres a way to currently do this. Before OPS was "done" with DOF functionality (Theres still MANY bugs with DOFs and OPS) how did you plane builders do DOFs? God I wish I had multigen......

Any ideas? suggestions? help?!?!?

I found that gear doors are nasty!

The way I tried it was to build the nacelle, or whatever has the door, with a portion alreay set aside for the door. Then, you just cut away the surface to make the door. This leaves you with a gap, which you fill with a black polygon.

Position the DOF along the flat edge of the doof poly, and pivot it there. Same works for bomb doors.

The trick for me was to build the plane part with the doors already planned for. Then you just have to worry about the lining up!

p.s. You want to try the B24 bomb-doors....they don't open like 'doors', they slide open like security shutters on shop windows......I am trying to simulate that!!!
