I'm trying to make a vehicule. The 3D model has 630 vertices.

It builds OK, is loaded OK by OPS, but does not appear in the game.

After some investigation, I notice the exported LOD has ~2700 vertices. I think that's too much for a single LOD (I had a similar problem before with the D.520).

However, each time I try to export the 3D model from AC3D, the number of vertices goes through the roof. What am I doing wrong? I never had any problem with LOD export. Is this a known problem?

How are you counting the verts? ...both before and after exporting.

before: in AC3D, menu tools/info gives:

Object "WORLD", 0xC207B8, v 0, s 0, kids 1, parent 0x0
Object "car", 0xC6C348, v 647, s 795, kids 0, parent 0xC207B8 *

Objects: 2 Surfaces: 795 Vertices: 647

after export, I open the LOD in notepad, the first lines are:

1 LODShape
1
10000.000000
2585
and the LOD file is 324k, that's huge for a simple 3D model like this one.

I think that the verts in the LOD are not shared, so this means there are dupes. I think they become shared again once loaded into OpenPlane. For non-smooth-shaded polys, they might need to have their verts unshared, because each vert would need its own vertex normal- but I have never tried that.

I do think that the LOD always shows more verts than AC3D will - this is normal, I think.

So worry about the verts in AC3D, not the LOD. You have the entire model as one LOD< right? Most LODS are smaller becuase they are just part of the object. So maybe your file size is OK.

I have never had a problem exporting LODS with Hippie's plugin. Feel free to send the model to me if you want, I can take if you want...

Thanks Sv,

So maybe there is nothing wrong with the plugins, and I should simply divide the mesh in several LODs? I'm surprised, I though it was quite simple... But maybe not enough for a single LOD after all.

I'll send you the .AC if this does not work.
