In a never ending search for terrain creating tools, I ran into someone who suggested trying Bryce 4.0. He said its easier to create the map and then import the file into 3DMax. Anyone tried using this this yet?

Hey Diego, well I hear d Bryce is excellent for terrains, only problem is that our terrains can't afford that level of detail, and although you could probably lower the detail settings my thinking is that doing that will basically mean it's just as easy to use Max to start with. I can generate terrains with max without any real problems, the problem comes when that single tile needs dicing up into the small squares, I've still not found any good way of doing that, and had to response from Max websites I've mailed

I tried to get him to make a mesh for Malta but, he's too busy with movie animation. I'll ask him about cutting up that mesh of yours.

Chad used Bryce to create the island in the OpenPlane demo. He has mentioned a couple of times that he can bang out the first pass of a new terrain very quickly with Bryce.

As with any model in a realtime program, you have to be careful of the level of detail you put into it.

hey diego!
i think on of the most kewl 3d modeling proggys out there for terrain making is blender3d. it's free and the terrain can be made so easily, i have a link to the tuturial, and the link to the blender3d is here www.blender3d.nl . btw u'll have to read all tutor for it's user interface cause it's so powerful once u know what everything does, but all in all it's fantastic proggy. u can even get fot linux, beos, solaris etc

i think i'll have to search for that terrain tutro, just a sec..
