OK, I'm happy now! As most of you know TG and I are working closely together on DM enhancements, mine have mostly been in the engine, but that only put other things on hold, things that TG has or is adding to the B17, well, I'm feeling chuffed cause I just finished the first step on the IL2 for advanced wing damage, it's split up into inner and outer spars, and then forward and rear wing sections for the inner and outer wings, I finally took a break from the engine and put all this onto the IL2, sorted out the airfoils and stuck it in a test mission.. well, first test and a spit1a blew off the right outer rear wing section, this part has the right aileron and outer flap, so they went aswell, as the AI struggled like hell to keep control (he was working hard!) the 3 chasing spits carried on pounding away at him! Reason I'm so chuffed is easy, I remember all those posts about control surface damage from Raider, and the problem always seemed to be that the AI would ignore an aircraft as a target when it lost an aileron or wing section.. well, it's not ignoring it now missing the right aileron and a wing section and they still carry on blowing the crap out of it!

I'm just really chuffed that this worked like we'd hoped, I was really worried the AI would ignore it after damage like that.. so, now all I need to do is add the new parts lower LODs, add new damage models for where sections are missing, tweak up the damage code.. then I can start work on the control surface damage effects upto losing the wing section... oh fun.. LOL

Nat, you beat me to a test, but it saves me the worry of spending lots of time on nothing!

The B17 wing is in 3 sections already, so it's 6 sections per wing for me if I split them. At some point, FR's are going to take a hit on the 17, so I may have to compromise on the number of wing sections. Current wings on the 17 don't have a simple break in the verts on all LOD's, so there will be some re-building called for!

Engine damage is well on the way, but needs careful planning to fit in with all the other damage that can go on at the moment. Again, I need to find out what impact individual cylinders have on the FR. Things are much easier when there is only 1 engine!
