Ok, I THINK someone made nightfigting equipment recently for one of the bombers. How does it work and where can I get it from?IP: Logged |

I made an ASV radar set for the Ju 188. It is a fake and work with the AFN-signal (the one that points to the nearest friendly airfield). MH said that a radar could be derived from that rather easily in the source code.IP: Logged |

a good idea for actual Radar was put out, but no-one seemd to take note, but Argon, you know I was talking to you about the submarine (ssshhhh) Well, you could make a Radar using the exact same principle, make the Radar a gun on a 360 dof, but use a rotating dof and not a translation, I'll have to think about it some more cause this method will only show direction and not range and then only targets upto about 5 miles away, or is that all they had back then?IP: Logged |

I know early in the use of airplane mounted radar, this is how it was done, but I don't know how much it improved by the end of the war.Radar range was very limited compared to nowadays. The planes were vectored in by ground control until they could pick them up. They didn't use the radar for targeting. They took a shot when they got close enough to see the target. On a really dark night, they followed the radar until they got close enough to see the bomber exhaust flames and aimed for or betwween those. ------------------ "Where'd he GO!?!?" thunk-thunk-thunk-zing-OUCH That answered my question IP: Logged |

Well... I dont think Im going to screw with radar then. Unless someone wants to for me. The Go-229 with radar will just have to remain non-workable. IP: Logged |

Along the same lines as radar...... (not a fix but a need)The PBY had a Magnetic Anomily Detector (MAD) system for detecting the presence of underwater subs... Assuming we make a submerged sub as a target (shouldn't be too hard for some people ...) Then is there a way make a display that shows range to target (you would have to sellect the sub as target....) Not in feet but in some graphical means? Way back when they had an electron tube called the "Magic Eye" As signal strength got greater, the top of the tube illuminated (green) starting from 270 degrees and 90 degrees gradually fulling in an arc until they met at 360 degrees (as you looked down on the tube, not in reference to a map...) If the signal became great enough that they crossed that line, you had it baby.... Is this possible? Email me if you have questions.... I do not know if this is what the MAD display was, but the age of the technology is about right... If anyone knows what a MAD display from WWII looked like please let me know.... ------------------ Snickers =FC= IP: Logged |

Hmm, i have read a little bit about the radars, many years ago, so correct me if i´m not right: There was no radar display in the planes (allies bombers), there was 3 sounds (beeps)that the navigator hears. One if they are one the right way, and for each side (left and right) if the plane is not on course a different one.Hope the information is right,Rendsburger

Is there a way to get the Target Radar(Alt M) to show up in a dial? Maybe the icons can be changed to small green dots...IP: Logged |

Rendsburger, you are talking about the Lorenz night-landing procedure and the Knickebein night-navigation procedure which was based on Lorenz. I would really really love to see a sim that supports this special application of living stereo. IP: Logged |
