Been playing around with the B17, and got the seperate modelled fuel tanks to work like I want!Him them and they leak....white vapour. Hit them hard, and you get FLAMES. lots of flames.... then your wing falls off! What I wondered, was about the smoke co-ords. Are they based around the planes origin, or that of the model part? If I set them to 0,0,0 does that mean the centre of the plane, or the centre of the part? Been doing it by trial and error so far, but I would like to be a little more in control of the process! p.s. I have a picture of a B24 that took a flak hit to the wing tanks. It showed a huge sheet of flames from the wing, which had folded up at the root. Both the inner and mid wings sections have tanks, with port engines drawing from both port tanks etc. Leak damage affects outer engine from outer tank, inner engine from inner tank. Next up will be damage to the oil tanks, located on the inner engine nacelles. Hit those and get black smoke until the engine dies. Oil coolers will be much the same, only the smoke will have to come from the oil cooler vents on the rear of the engine. Soon! So, now we have: brake failure, fuel tank damage, flat tyres, red-flares for crew damage ( also coming soon)and cowls now get shot away revealing the engine. To add: crew damage, full engine DM, oil tanks, oil coolers, crew models, gear hydraulic failure, and.... then it's time to play games with the wing structure, with a Spar structure, hidden spar model to take hits, and the wings independant of each other. Crack obModel, and build the damage Lods! The race is on to have her ready for the new year! Just need to avoid getting side-tracked!!!!!! IP: Logged |

0,0,0 is center of the object. I use this alot to make smoke come from the exhaust, radiator, etc. However I do it TBE (trial by error) until it is in just the right spot. Also, the first call for smoke from the engine will turn to flame when the engine damage reaches 50%. IP: Logged |

Thanks Raider!Trial end error is so much easier when you know where the starting point should be! I'll need to watch the flame thing, though. I don't want to have too much engine flame too early on! I'll keep the obHits up, and let the damage effects do the job for me. Next up, I'll graft on some fire extinguisher stuff, if it's ready. Big tricky bit coming up next though....if I move the wing structure around, will the AI stay on-board with a wing section gone. I'm hoping to trick it with obModel. Swap in a blown wing section ( looking like the Ki61 shots ) when you take out the middle or inner! IP: Logged |

Fire extinguisher should be ready tonight.Using obModel will only replace the lod, but not change any of the properties, it keeps the same air properties and damage levels, etc. We tried to create changing damage with obModel replacement, but it did not transfer the new properties. I am really looking forward to you finished model. On a side note, I have B-17 II, it worked fine until I updated to DirectX 8. Now I can't even load the game without the Blue Screen of Death. So I uninstalled, deleted remaining folders, rebooted, ran Defrag, reinstalled and....Same problem. Funny thing is that I was already starting to get a little bored with it. (Although I really did like it) Don't know if I will even fight through trying to get a solution, many guys over at the Bombs Away fourm seem pretty upset about having so much trouble too. You may win over a few people with your new B-17 IP: Logged |

That is good news!....not the blue screenbit...The motors are about ready for fire suppression. The fuel tanks burn nicely now too! Good also, is the fact that I have modelled engines, seperate cowls, and the FR's haven't plummetted. Also, with a lot of the DM stuff taken away from the engines, it makes things a lot easier. Look at one of Condors DM's and it is quite daunting. So much is going on! I have the SFC stuff linked to fuel tank damage ( Laika's I16 provided me with a good example to work from ), oil stuff linked to the tanks and coolers, and lastly, the motors themselves. Might have to have nacelle hits trigger engine fire, so you can have this happen without losing the cowls. OOOoooohhh I'm looking forward to this! ObModel will be fine for swapping the LOD for one with a big hole in it, or, in fact, if I can use obProb and obModel together, I may be able to swap in a choice of parts with holes in. Pang was offering some airfoil advice for the Camel, and I think this could use some of the same. The plan is to have an airfoil object activate on damage to simulate drag from a ripped wing covering. The Camel was going to get this, but I think it would work just as well here. Pretty sure ArgonV had airfoils that were inactive until called. That way, I can live with the old properties, just mess up the flight characteristics as the wing gets shot up. Perfect. When I get the current stuff all together, I'll mail you a copy of the work in progress. It flies o.k. in game, but there is so much more to be done! You have been a really big help with some great stuff to put in this bird! Thanks! IP: Logged | |
