hey
before i start building anything i need to know something..i've read SV tutor and i have a ? .. when u're building a model of plane u make wings fuse tail and so on as separate objects and then "join" them in OP or u create everything as 1 object..how it's in this case with gears?
i saw that superb 3dviews site whirpool posted it and i think of doing mig3 or that kavanashi (it's 40%/60% for the kavanashi )
thx for help

Personally, I build a plane as wings, fuse etc. Wings need to be chopped up, so make sure you leave convenient places to make your cuts. However you build it, in order to put it into OPS, you will need to have it chopped up into pieces!

When I built the models for the PBY gear, I made each strut seperately, positioned where they should be. All the parts that will move have to be seperate, and I found it easier to build and texture things that way.

hey
thx for quick response
SV..i was hoping ac3d but $40 and credit card is something i don't have
so..i'll get myself 3dmax..shhhhhh..i know it's illegal.) but wth..my winsux are to .
ehm..it's a big difference between max and ac3d? i'm just curiuos why do u ask..
actually i have zmodeler (it's free) but i don't know what are the measurements and i don't think it supports that kewl feature which is in ac3d (u make those polygon 2d planes and then proggy itself creates - in ur case - fuse)

It is a sad day when it is easier to get 3dsmax than AC3D

Talk to Andy (ac3d), maybe he will take a check!

The process is very different between AC3D and 3dsmax. IMO, 3dSmax is WAY harder to learn - (and, shhhh: it is not as good at low poly modeling). I think the tools that work with AC3D created by Hippie are AWESOME! It IS the OpenPlane 3d editor

Still, I think more people use 3Dsmax now, including Bryan, the creator of OpenPlane Studio - so I imagine that those two apps work well together. But I can't help with the 3dsmax stuff... so I'm off the hook here

Extractor and builder were the old version of Hippies tools. They were replaced by the OL8 files.

in place of extractor, run smd

in place of buidler, run smc

The syntax is still the same, and the output is almost the same. The benefits to using the OL tools are really only for those using AC3D. The OL file can be erad into AC3D and it re-creates the complete model, in it's component parts, all in the right place. When you re-build, with any model parts changed, they end up where you put them in the 3d prog. In SV's notes, using the old system, you had to move all the parts to centre them around the origin before exporting the LOD. Otherwise, positioning was way off giving some odd results.

If you are going to use Max ( I got it, but still use AC3D...haven't got to grips with Max at all yet) you should get obj2max and max2obj plugin's and export .OBJ files from OPS. Import the model parts into Max, make your chanegs, and export as .OBJ, and import into OPS directly. Check the Tech Talk for advice on using the Max plugins, they are touchy things! Also, texturing and scaling!

SV's tutorials are based around using AC3D. The information they contain is useful, but do not expect to be able to follow all his methods on other 3d modelling packages.

No, it will not work. You also need Hippie's AC3D plugins, and plugins only work in the registered version of AC3D.
