I switched a pilot "torso" lod in for the lod of the mk82 bomb and sort of mixed the properties, I cut the parapack and parachute and pasted it. In the test mission I can drop the paratroopers and the chutes open. I am working on three things. 1. They still fall (fast) like bombs. 2. The chute opens as soon as they start to fall (chute sticks up through plane) 3. Still have to rename and make it a separate loadout. Also this allows us to paste the parachute to crates and things so that supplies can also be dropped. Rendsburger I will send you a copy of what I have and I will keep working on it. IP: Logged |

Hmmm. Maybe the old "breaking DOF" trick, combined with the "Dam Buster" trick...Have a second "paratrooper" child to the first. First trooper has no chute, but has a breaking DOF with airfoil. First trooper drops, DOF breaks, 2nd paratrooper detaches (first one's LOD only visible at range 1, but the second one is visible at long range) and then chute opens. Could probably do this with the pilots too, if it works that is.

I made some paratroopers awhile back too.. i got around them starting with the chute inside the plane. I can't remember how but I made it so the paratrooper object was offset downwards so it entered the game lower. I had the same problem where they would drop too fast. TS IP: Logged |

The chutes dont work because OPS messes up certain code in one of the Funcs of the parachute object. I figured that out a while back.... Go get a pilot, make a backup, take a look at the Func on the parachute, reload it in OPS and have another look at it. You will see whats changed...To Fix this: Uncheck 'Parse Proplist' Copy the code of the parachute in the 'Edit Properties as text' mode BEFORE you reload or save the pilot/parabomb. Copy it in a text document and save it. Recheck 'Parse Proplists' and when you are done making modifications, reload the pilot/parabomb and edit the parachute in the 'Text Mode' and copy/paste the origonal code back, then uncheck 'Parse Proplist' and save. This fixes the pilot bug soooo many of you hate. P.S. At least I THINK this is how you fix it... P.P.S Yup I just tried it, this fixes it... Raider, i canīt wait to make a mission with the paratroopers :-)))))))My idea is: Make a paratroopers as a bomb. Now we need a great location like an airfield or a city. If the troopers land(explode) it damage without a visible explosion ( i think this is possible) the airfield ... No we have a mission goal! Nice or? Rendsburger

Even cooler: build a paratrooper with a "turret gun" built in, so that when he "lands" (if you can keep him from falling through the ground or falling over) you can "jump" to the paratrooper's "turret," and shoot the place up. Give him a "grenade launcher" (cannon) as his second gun, and you could do some serious damage ------------------ --jedi-- IP: Logged |

Can this "para-bomb" be used as an actual bomb with a chute on it? The type used by low flying bombers in the Pacific would definately be extremely cool!IP: Logged |

The good news is that right now he is a Para-bomb, meaning that he blows up (like a bomb) when he hits the ground. I will be working on him tomorrow.Jedi, I like your idea about the turret, I think I can make him stand up on landing by giving him a (hidden) broad base and have the chute obKillDelay -5 so that it disappears a few seconds after it touches the ground. Switching to him may be another thing. I'll keep you guys posted. IP: Logged |

Sorry Rendsburger, my darn ISP has been down for two days. I will send it to you tonight. I should have known that if Tailslide was having trouble with this that it must be near imposible. I have not been able to really change much since I started working on it.I won't be able to work on it much this week (Finals) but I should have time over the holidays to try a few things. One thing I am going to try is to make my own object. Not use the parachute code.

No I wouldn't say its impossible.. I just have a low tolerance for things not working like they should. I'm sure it's doable one way or another. TS IP: Logged |
