I corrected a small problem I was having with multi-engine aircraft. I am past that now and expect to have Engine Damage for ALL FIGHTER AIRCRAFT IN SDOE(except the spitIXe - OPS crashes when I edit it). Can anyone else edit the spitIXe in OPS v1.3? Let me know.

If you have not volunteered for testing in my previous post 2 weeks ago and would like too, just let me know here.

The file will be a zip file somewhere around 4 to 5 megs is my guess. If it is too large, I will split it into 2 files so I can email it easier.

This will be a baseline engine damage, and I expect during testing with everyones suggestions to have engine damage which will be accurate and acceptable to all! Modifications at this point should be very easy to make, so please don't hold back anything about what you feel should be changed. If you want to make an easy contribution and have you suggestions put into the engine damage formula this is your chance!(off my soap box now )

Please note: This will not be online standard. Once installed to switch back to online standard you will have to rename your "aircraft" directory. With it installed you will only be online compatible with myself and the group of eight others who will be testing as well. It needs lots of offline testing as well.

Thanks to all who have volunteered!

There is definitely interest in this Condor...I don't have a lot of time, but I'll help where I can. I really want to see this come to fruition.

Engine Damage Beta 1 has been emailed to all who volunteered. In my email I forgot to mention it is a 3.5 meg zip file so it will take some time to download if you have a modem like me. Also if for any reason you don't have an unzip program like winzip, let me know.

Update: Minor delay occurring. No ones email would take a 3.5 meg file. I am trying to make other arrangements.
I will send it as soon as I can.

Thanks,

This is fun, I kept my finger off the trigger until I was <150 ft above & behind a Fw-190.

I opened up trying to lead enough so the bullets would hit the engine. The cowling lit up from the hits then KA-BOOM the engine blew.

This is too cool. I haven't found any major bugs yet and so far the damage probabilities seem ok. It'll take more time to get a good feel for how this affects the game.

I'm going to try a series of ground attacks using the P-51 and P-47 this weekend. This will let me compare the radial engine damage to the water cooled engine. There should be a noticeable difference in engine survivability if everything is working fine.

Spanky here...

Wa so your saying you did something cool and now your going to do it to ALL the planes?

That rocks.

We need to do this with alot of things, (sliding canopys and such) Glad to see this important area isn't just being applied to one plane.

Looks like I need to clear some space for SDOE again.

Hi Da Jug Head.

Thanks, sounds great so far. Please rememeber, the P47 and PE2 already had an extensive damage model put in place. I have only modified the obhits values to even out the chance engine damage will occur. The makers of those 2 planes are very talented guys and I saw no need to modify what they have done. My goal here is to have engine damage for all the fighters and those 2 planes are all set IMHO.

Also, remember for this version of engine damage, all engines have been set for "water cooled" damage for simplicity sake and set to use the white smoke as a better visual indicator to you that the cooling system has been damaged. The probabities of cooling system damage are also set the same between water and air cooled for simplicity sake. The next release will include much lower probabities for air cooled engine damage. I am looking for feedback on how much lower the probability should be set. The resulting smoke stream will also be turned to black instead of white.

Spanky,

I already have done it to all the fighters except the spitIXe. OPS crashes on the spit for me. I hope get that in for the next release. It would be great if you want to help test this out. Just send me an email and I will give you the link to it.
