Hi all,I am 99% done with putting engine damage into all of the WWII fighters up to and including plane pack 6.0. The me262 is also included. I have done it mainly for myself, but I would really like to know if the community would enjoy this as well. All you have to do for inspiration is do a search on the internet for WWII combat pictures. Although grim in reality, these effects greatly increase the immersiveness of sdoe imho. I know many of the planes' owners are doing there own engine damage(and many other improvements as well). Their code obviously overrides any code I am doing here. This is simply a trial run to find out if the damage effects and probabilities for those effects seem correct to others besides myself and my main test pilot. I would like as many volunteers to help test online, but you would need to be comfortable with managing your "aircraft" directory or have a second installation of sdoe to use. I am doing some final double checking on the various planes and hope to have it completed in at most 2 weeks. The zip file will be small enough to email to anyone who is interested. Let me know if you want to help out and really improve this engine damage for everyone. Also please post any questions or concerns you may have. Condor out ------------------

Mail me a copy,I am interested in what you are doing, and think it is time well spent! Even if everyone doesn't want to use your code, it is good to have for reference. It is something I found useful when looking at damage as a whole. I learn't loads pulling Laika's code apart to see what made it go, and remember one of his plans was to form a rough standard of how damage should be applied. p.s. On the damage subject, ArgonV and I are working on a DM project which should be interesting, especially when combined with your engine stuff! IP: Logged |

As your tester for dm. I find that it adds a new dimention to the sim. When hurt heading for home and landing is almost as fun as a good dogfight.------------------ Silverfox IP: Logged |

Count me in. Having a good engine DM will go a long ways toward squishing the online damage bug IMO.------------------ --jedi-- IP: Logged |

I'm in for testing too My background revolves around mostly allied planes, but I will test whatever ya send me. In my humble opinion, the balance between the DM and ammo/bomb affect is THE most important area we can develop in SDOE. Your work here, Condor, is very much appreciated. Same, same for the others that have developed this area. I'm ready to start when you are Cheers, ------------------ AGAS 5 CAC Skins IP: Logged |

Condor, did you make the DM on the PP6's FW-190 and the Mustang? If so did you make the engine only of the whole plane. Because now if you shoot the FW's wing it smokes then burns then falls off. I think its cool. Your work on the engine is also really cool, well worth the effort. But could we make the wings on the P-51 more resistant to enemy fire? It seems I rarely shoot the engine off, I usually just blast off a wing. Snake IP: Logged |

Know what you mean, but you have to be careful here. If you see gun camera footage of aerial combat, that is quite often what does happen. Engines present a smaller target than wings, fuel tanks etc. and are under a lot of stress. Put a 20mm cannon shell through a main wing spar......What condor has done will probably be more fun when you aer flying the plane, trying to get home nursing a damaged plane.. It's all a question of balance. Bombers I found to be much easier to do this to. Wings should be stronger, and engines damage is much more visible. Hit a lightweight fighter good and hard, and they should fall apart! IP: Logged |

I can also test this. There's plenty of room on my HD for 2 installations since I moved most of my productivity software to Linux. (might even do 3 so I can play with the WWI planes too).I think this is needed. The big difference between the Jug and the Mustang in ground attack missions was the susceptibility to ground fire. Liguid cooled engines don't last too long once the radiator has a hole in it ------------------ "Where'd he GO!?!?" thunk-thunk-thunk-zing-OUCH That answered my question IP: Logged |

Hey Condor, I've been doing alot of test flights with the IL2 the last couple of days, and I'm really liking the engine DM, as the IL2 calms down (needs less work) I'll be able to give you a better report on how it is, but right now I like it, I'll keep you updated as work progresses and more testing is done Thanks alot Condor ~Nat~ ------------------ 7./JG3 "Naturlich" "SDOE...
