I had a look at the island terrain after Reaperman noticed some odd behaviour when he got the start co-ords wrong for some planes. They were able to drive around on the water.

Haven't tested it out yet, but I did notice some things that seemed very odd indeed when I looked it the model...

First, it is more than 1 model!!!

The land and sea edges are one, the sea another. There is a big hole in the sea where the island sits, and the land also has a 'bottom' to it.

Also, the terrain doesn't sit at the zero line either. I don't know if this affects where sea level and zero feet are?

Either way, If you wanted to turn, say, africa into an Island type terrain, all you would need to do is to have an all sea terrain, and position the africa terrain a little bit lower. Add in the water .SM...Instant Flood!

You could then, in theory, remove any bits of land you didn't need.

Alternatively, and this is the interesting bit, if you raised the level of the sea, does this remove some of the problems I had with wet landings?

I will try to place some planes on the watery bits of Island, and see what happens. If I can effect a landing or takeoff there, happy day!

Sorry I didn't get that mission and pictures to you. I just did a "deltree windows" and installed ME. I only reinstalled SDOE this morning before I came to work.

I couldn't get the Corsairs to take off, they kept going in circles so I couldn't get up enough momentum and lift to take off.

They were splashing all around, and only after about 15 minutes of driving around in circles like that, did they start to smoke.

The fact that they weren't bouncing about and were'nt sinking is what intrigues me!

Don't worry too much about the screenshots etc. since I have downloaded and 'reverse engineered' the terrain. The mission would be useful if you can find it, since it will tell me exactly where on the terrain the planes were.

The drag from the water would slow you down, and it would ultimately destroy the plane, but in all my attempts to do wet landings, the effects have been far worse than you are describing.

I think this terrain may hold the key....all I have to do is re-create it!!!!!
