I'm not sure if I'm qualified to help, but:

Somewhere in the common textures (or at least in the beaufighter texture directory) is a texture called trasgrad.tif.

This texture seems to be a varying opacity see through texture, with dark tint at one end and almost invisible at the other. All I did to make the beaufighter windows was to texture the object with transgrad.tif. When it looked weird because of the varying opacity, I played scaled up the texture in MAX so the texture wouldn't change as much across the length of the window (since I think that you're using AC3D, I'm not much help here).
