You want the damage to run in the following order:Engine power loss
fuel leakage
radiator damage (move this up one for p51 etc, where rad is exposed)
engine feathers
engine fire
engine explodes
You then need to give each a percentage chance of occurring at damage level 1.
You can then multiply the damage percentage by the damage level, to give an increased chance of each occurring.
Total loss of the plane should be avoided from engine damage, other than that resulting from freak hits! Better to kill the motor, and let the pilot try to keep the wings on his overweight glider!
Fire should be a risk, coz it really was!
I have a small fire risk from engine damage , rising as the hits do on the B17. Fire will destroy the engine, but most of the damage is not passed to the wing. Ignite the wing tank however, and the resulting fire will always be fatal....
hope this helps!
Don't worry about the obhits until you have a working model of probabilities. Then, test. Add more obhits if you can't see the effects, or if planes just blow every time. Remove obhits if they don't go down when you really clobber them! For each plane, try to find out how durable they were and blanace your obhits to give that impression! easy...not!
