I am going to take a break from my current projects and do what I normally do - start another one that is just for fun.

Since the plane itself never actually flew nor was any work done on the plane beyond the modelling stage, I need to brush up on what the various plane terms are:

1) Chord - the side to side length of a single wing <- but what I know from two this is sometimes the front to back measurement for the wing is called cord???
2) Aspect ratio - span/chord^2 <- is this span of a single wing with front to back cord?
3) Advantage - is this the cross-sectional shape or the horizontal shape of the wing? Am I mixing this up with airK?
4) Where does the thickness of the wing (bottom to top) come in to play in OP terminology - I don't recall seeing it.

Some general questions that probably were answered during the Go229 months - will planes fly with no hStab defined? The plane does have vStabs defined, but will no hStabs be a problem?

General: How do you estimate the weight of a plane that never flew or made it into full scale mock-up?

Once I model it and get it flying, I'll post some picts.

Ok, I'll admit, the main reason for doing the plane is to play with AC3D 3.0 .

1) Chord is average distance from leading to trailing edge of the wing.

2) Apect ratio is total span of wing divided by the average chord - use the span of the enitire wing always, not just one side.

3) AirAdvantage relates to mechanical advantage the pilot has to overcome the forces on teh control surfaces.

4) You won't find it, airfoil properties are defined in the airFoil file used by that wing - this file defines coefs for lift, drag and moment over the enitire angle of attack range. It also holds the info for control surface deflection - this is measured as a min and max extreme and then interpolated during the game in relation to how much the aileron/rudder/elevator is deflected.

I think you must have a hStab if you want the AI to bother trying to fly it. I also don't think there is a way to get an aircraft pitch stable in SDOE with no hStab. but maybe there is.

You could make a small hidden hStab easily, just set it to have very little impact on the FM.

Hmmm.. the plane is modelled to have two mains but drawn as having two mains and a nose gear, I am thinking of going with the logical choice of the latter configuration.

Thanks, SV. I am actually thinking about taking a section of the inner wing and making part of it an hstab. It will server two purposes doing it this way - 1) elevator control, and 2) you'll be able to shoot chunks out of the wing.

I probably will just use the B-17's airfoil to start. I am not sure whether the plane was intended as a straight light bomber or a bomber/ground attack craft as it appears to be mounting twin 37mm cannon on the leading edge of the wing.

The plane is about 1.5 times the size of the Go229.
