Hi Nat and Raider,

I know I am really pushing hard to get this great new dm process you guys are working on perfected. I am so enthusiastic because I think it is the best overall improvement to sdoe yet!
That being said - I appologize up front for any offense to my questions.

1) Are you guys able to work together and compare notes at all? Your approaches aim to create the same results but you are using different methods.

Raider's approach(on the p51d) causes the ai to bail upon airleron damage and Nats method(on the A10) does not. Raider's approach causes instant flight control problems as it designed to when the aileron is damaged. It also has great visual effects.

I can't be sure(been testing the A10 for 10 hours now) but Nat's approach doesn't seem to cause a slow loss of control as is intended. Everything else seems fantastic with great visual effects as well.
From my testing it seems the A10 tends to get harder to control the more time that passes since you sustain damage but....
this is also true if you are just flying for the same amount of time and the fuel level is getting low. Maybe both things are happening at the same time and I just can't tell. Nat am I just not noticing this the way I should?

2) What is the basic difference in approaches the two of you are taking?

Condor, I appreicate your energy. I can not get the airAdvantage to change during runtime. Here is how I tested it.

1. Fly plane as is, and note the handling.

2. Change airAdvantage of left wingtip to .1

3. Fly plane with aA modified. Note handling. (flyes like a brick, very slow roll rate)

4. Set aA back to orginal setting. Add to onDmg 1, airAdvantage .1

5. Start on runway, switch to slew mode. Shoot left wingtip. Note bullet holes, so I know that onDmg 1 has been implemented.

6. Take off. Flyes like normal, airAdvantage did not change for me.

I still don't think it can be modified during runtime, It must be something else on the A-10.

However, Nat's use of unhiding damage effects is the best I have seen so far, and I hope to add some of his ideas to the P-51. And yes, we do work together, we have sent each other several parts and mods.

All for one and one for all.

Thanks for the info Raider! May the sdoe gods smile on us all concerning this dm mystery.

One thought though is, could you try the same test above with modifying aAdvantage property on the A10 from Nat and see what happens? I am sure Nat has tried it already but maybe, just maybe, you might see something that answers all the current questions.

Condor, the A10 becoming harder to handle after prolonged flight is probaby due to it's fuel distribution, on the latest model I've sorted this problem out, maybe now would be a good time for more DM testing, so anyone reading this that would like the latest version for testin then mail me, or post in any of my other threads, I might miss it otherwise. It is a very important part of the A10 model since it has very high obHits and can even be flown and landed with half a wing missin and no V stabs (might not sound it.. but realistic all the same), because of this it must have a good DM with regard to control surface damage.

No offence at all to Raider because his work has been ground breaking on control surface damage, but for the A10 I can't afford to use his effects yet cause the AI shouldn't bail after loosing an outer wing tip in this aircraft as it can still be flown. But I'm really hoping one or both of us find a way through this, and as I said in the past, if both ways work well, a combination of both methods would be awsome

Of course Nat, no offence taken. We are all trying to improve this great game and I am not satisfied with the object swapping way to implement the control surface damage either.

I am going to set this on a high damage level for now, so the AI doesn't bail out too soon, but if this is not satisfactory I will pull it out.

Don't count out bjorn, I know he is working on this too and he always seems to come up with something.

We will keep pushing ahead, that is one trait of the plane builders.

what I'm just adding to the A10 is a drag foil on the wing tips, that is called by a function, I need to test it yet, but I'm thinking that when the specified damage level is reached and the drag foil cuts it it could be a good simulation of control surface damage, since basicaly that wing tip will now effectilvy be slower than the other making the aircraft harder to control. It's not control surface in so much as it's not aileron/elevator based, but I'm pretty sure that if a wing gets shot up even with no damage to the aileron, it'll be harder to control because of the damaged wing skin causing more drag and less lift.. here's hoping huh.. lol Now I gotta fly it hoping to get shot up but not killed to see what happnes.. lol
