Hey guys, could someone sort me out with a good set of instructions for calculating Ordpoints on a pylon set I have built.

It's a rather large construction with 11 pylons i.e. One mount with 11 Pylons and I need to calculate the ordpoint for each one, but haven't got a clue how to do it.

I use 3DSM v2 and v3.1 The instructions will make using bombs and rockets one helluva lot better/more realistic imho.

Thanks SV (or others)

I just copy and paste ordPoints from a pylon with them in the right spot and guess and check from there. The number sequence goes X axis, Y axis and Z axis. Im sure theres an easier way, but Ive got guess and check down pretty good so it only takes me about 2 tries to get it right.

LOL, it's not a bad idea.. but visualise this.. see those pics Razer posted of the partially mapped A10.. well, all those pylons from the far left wing tip, to the far right wing tip, need to be on a single mount, from point 1 to point 11 there is around a 30ft difference.. lol, but hel, if no-one has a good answerm then guess is what I shall have to do.

Although, thanks for pointing out the axis, that could just help me as far as using max is concernd.... time to sign off and go try maybe...

LoL Nat. Just in case you didnt know already, any number sequence in OpenPlane goes in X Y Z order. The obWheels points for example are in X Y Z order. I hope there is a simpler way to do all this however.

Well ya got the wrong guy for this one, I have never done this. But let me guess anyway:

I am guessing that the coords are just like obBodyPts collsion points or the like. These are relative to the mesh in question. My site explains how to get these values. Basicalyt you just select the vert of the mesh in question in your 3d program. Now view the coords for that vert, write them down and use them in OPS.

Now if you need many positions that are not part of the mesh, as it seems you do, just bring in the pylon to your 3d program along with any other needed objects for refernce, like the wing. Now create new verts as part of the pylon, but align them where you want the ord points. Now write down these coords.

The key is that the coords are relative to the pylon mesh.

I am totaly guessing though, maybe ord points are special... Many around here should know how to do this...

DONE IT!!!!!! Thanks Argon

I signed of straight away and sorted it all out within 10 mins thanks to Argon just telling me the order of ordpoint values.. I dunno, gave me a brain flash.. it worked like this..

I had built the Maverik Mount in Max, it's a single object that has pylons placed in a row from the centre to the left and right, all pylnos potitioned so that they will merge with the fuse and wings once mported into OPS.

Next, take a pen and paper.. at the top write X Y Z
and down the side the order that you want the pylons to fire in. For me it was
L3
R3
L2
R2
L1
R1
L
R
ML
MR
M
then, you use the mouse in Max, and in the Top View pane you can gather the X and Y co-ordinates by placing your mouse exactly where you want the ordpoint to be, in the bottom right of Max it shows the pointer co-ordinates, so you move to in my case L3 (Left pylon number3 (outer Pylon)) and put the pointer exactly where I want Maverick to appear, and right down the X and Y co-ords (first 2 boxes), then do the same for R3, L2 and so on, so now I have all the X and Y co-ords, then I use the Front View pane, and working in exactly the same order, I move the pointer to the lowest point on the pylon where I want the Mav to appear, then checking in the bottom windows,3rd box gives the Z co-ord, and I right that down. After that I now have all the co-ords for the complete 11 pylon Maverick Mount
Now into Ops, I delete all but 1 pylon, and import my 11 pylon LOD into it and potion it correctly on the aircraft, then go into the properties and start entering all the OrdPt's exactly per my created list
L3 = 1
R3 = 2 and so on

now into the Loadout, and instead of having 11 OrdType 'Rocket, I have a single one with an OrdNumber of 11

OK, what this means is that I now start a mission with the Maverick Loadout, the new 11 Pylon mount is there, and very acurately loaded with the Mavs, all per the co=ords, now, I arm, and select Rockets, Press the 8 key for single fire, now when I fire a Mav only a single Mav is fired, first mav is fired from the outer lefthand pylon, the second mav from the outer right pylon, and so on working leaft to right and inwards!

What this also means is that now I have all the co-ords listed I'm able to chop up the original mount, say removing the inner 3 mounts and making a seperate mount from them, using them for bombs, which will now also release in single fire mode 1 at a time, while still having the outer sections of the old mount with Mavs in single fire.. loads of different ways to combine all this now.. use the whole 11 pylon mount for bombs and you can drop a single bomb and still have 10 left over!

Yep, rockets, missiles and bombs are now going to be much more fully under our control!!

If anyone wants the new pylon to look at/mod/use, just let me know.
