Hey guys.. how can I detach something from a detached object?

I detach a bomb, and after it's detached I want something to detach from it, how would I do this?

I tried onDetach obDetach 'base (base being the part I want to detach, but they just fall together.

any ideas?

Hmmm... you could add a object with a airfoil with a dofSpring and a dofBreak so when the bomb reaches a certain speed, the dof will break. Then you could add a onDetach, obFunc, obDetach to that to cause whatever you want to fall off, fall off.

uh - I'm not 100% sure - as long as I remember detached objects did not react to any property which is given when they are allready off and gone.

well you see, I started work on the SUU-30 cluster bomb

I created a bomb with 2 halves, after the bomb detaches I want the bomb to split into 2 parts, and detach the objects attached inside. a breaking DOF kindof worked to split them, but is very unstable/unpredictable, but if perfected the same thing may be able to be used for the objects (basicaly bombs) to then detach, but in all likelyhood all dof's would break at the same time, which isn't wha I want, so for now unless someone knows of a better way to detach parts from a bomb/detached object, the cluster bomb will sit on the shelf

The dambuster bomb is really TWO bombs, one of which detaches from the first, but it uses an onDmg X property to cause the second shape to detach.

You may be able to define a function, and call it from the onDetach property, i.e. onDetach, Name 'subpart Func 'breakoff, and then make the subpart breakoff Func be "obDetach"

You might also try the old breaking airfoil DOF trick. OnDetach, activate airfoil (bombs already have this). Airfoil moves spring DOF until it breaks, second object falls off.

Jedi, I tried the breaking DOF, just to unpredictable, you might get it set up right untill you go into a dive and the bomb rips apart, so you make the dof stronger then it wont seperate when you drop it.. you can see all the lil problems the Dof causes. I like your first idea but wasn't really sure on how to set it up, but I think it can be done that way, I just dunno how to do it yet.. lol

Nat, how high do you want the bomb to seperate. If you want it to seperate 100 feet above the ground you could give it an invisible contact point that is 100 feet below the bomb. As jedi says, put it on a spring/break, when it detaches 100 feet above the ground, call a function to detach the rest of the bomb objects.

now that is a damn good idea Raider.. I forgot we could use Det Cord like on those roll out bombs we had in the Gulf.. "daisy Cutters"

30m of detcord hung below a pallet of TNT with a detonaor on the end.. let me tell you, I aint seen anything go off like that in my life!

Cool idea Raider, that should do it for me I hope, I'll know to bug you for help if I have probs.. lol

Something else to try if that doesn't work....

I was playing with a way of doing air exploding rockets, and thought of this.
If you have effectively have a small bomb with rocket properties, on detach, you start a fire in it's tail. The thing damages the rocket until it explodes. Juggle the obHits to get the timing right. When it reaches damage 10, boom.

Been too busy with other things to try it ....

Great idea, time delay. Maybe in the loadout there could be some choices of bombs with different delays.
