Brainstorm.. we can add a KillPilot function to the pilot.sm file !!

Just do like laika did and create a small fire under the pilot..

Any time you want the pilot dead (like those bulletholes in the side of the p47 bjorn? Do a (obExec (Name 'pilot func 'KillPilot) )

TS (going func-happy)

A gory version could put up blood drips or red tinted alpha map around the pilots view point..

(obHits 1) added to the crew object works, but the fire will work much faster.

Umm, no whirl didn't work for me or Laika. You can kill the pilot with alot of shots from slew mode that way but I never actually had one die in a dogfight, and I flew with it set like that for 6 months.

Oh, my only experience is from bomber pilot/copilot losses. I loose a lot of test pilots to flak....

Hmmm, maybe altering the 'Ab lod (parent of all pilot objects) would be a better idea than the fire ? Actually the lod is only a small (very small) point or quad, when we would make it more like a simple pilot-shape etc etc ..... ?

My only objection to the fire idea is it guarantees death and not injury.

Hi Laika, I tried setting the close in LOD to be a poly shell that totally covers the outside of the canopy but I still couldn't die in a fight. Maybe you can try your axis-collision flag magic on something like this.

Flack it depends on the size and the duration of the fire and how many obhits the pilot has. you could set all this in a prob statement when the unarmoured part of the plane gets hit

If we use the I-16 Fire thingy we should also check if an 'obFireResistance would make sense. Unfortunately I don't got time now...
