Hi guys, hopefully one of you can help me out with this.. the problem is I'm building the coast line for Singapore, for which I need to be able to see the mapping in Max, allowing me to edit the model to fit the coast, but for some reason when I map the tile, the texture isn't showing up. I've clicked the button in Material Editor that should show the map, but all that it does now is change the model color. I've just switched to Max 3.1 so maybe I'm missing something here, especially since I've not had much trouble till recently with mapping. As far as I can tell I've done everything right to map the tile.. selected the faces with ignore backfaces and show normals. opend Material Editor, clicked on the first (brownish) box, clicked on background, and then applied. Gone into maps and picked the tif I want to use, the clicked on apply/view, then gone into the UVmap, set W to 0 into bitmap fit and selected the map again. This is what I've always done before and I could see the texture, but now I can't. Maybe I've not selected the right import options in Obj2Max, I'm not sure, but any help is greatly apprecited and very needed. Thanks guys ~Nat~ IP: Logged |

Nat, there's a little blue and white chequered cube under the material slots... have you selected that? It is the "show map in viewport" switch.------------------ III Gruppe, Jagdgeschwader 3 IP: Logged |

is it not showing up in the viewport, or is it not showing up in OPS when you import the lod?are you using max2obj for max 3 or still using the older file? have you tried to export as VRML and test it in OPS? IP: Logged |

Hey Dan, it's in the viewport I can't see it, it's kinda ok in OPS (Max2Obj never seems to export textires right, they are sqiggly whereas with Johny Owe they weren't..can't use the Owe plugin with 3.1 though)I really need to be able to see whats going on in the viewport though. IP: Logged |

Nat: Click on the little grey box next to the word diffuse...I believe it is under the ambient option. They are in the top rollout in the material editor. After you click that choose bitmap and then choose your texture file. Uncheck the option "Show map on back" then click the blue and white checkered gizmo to show it in the viewport. Then drop and drag the material you just created from it's "preview" area up at the top of the material editor. You need to drop it on the object you are working on..."After you have selected the faces". Now after that is complete it's probably not going to look correct so just click the UVW map button in the modify tab. Align it to which ever axis you need to align it to be sure W tile is set at zero and use your move and non uniform scaling tools to adjust the UVW gizmo. Be sure that in the UVW rollouts when you goto adjust the UVW gizmo you have to cick the "sub-object" button and be sure gizmo is the one chosen...It should be because it's the only only sub-object option in that area Well I hope that helps you.------------------ Subaltern FarmerJoe Axis West Three Amigo IP: Logged |

Wierd.....
