Okay, you tell me if this is normal:
I begin texturing/painting my project and notice my models are no longer smooth but are flat. Import into AC3D and try to change surface type-Nothing changes! Okay, remove all surfaces and then in edit select undo remove surfaces-viola-its smooth!
Now the fun really starts:
Import my new smooth lods in OPS but only with the FokkerDR1A plane(if I use a different plane or even my own project-CRASH)
Then export the imported lod as an obj file.Start ops, open my project, and import the objs. My models are now smooth.
Is it just me...?

I don't import and export obj files, so I am not sure... I use the LOD file type and use Hippie's builder/extractor. Although now that I'm using 3dsmax I am starting all over again

I have had perfect luck by making sure the normals are correct and the verts are shared in AC3D. Then appply smooth shading. Now export the object as a lod file.

I have had shading get messed up though, showing odd shadow lines - this seems to be related to the mesh shape - I hear that smooth shading is based on vertex normals that can get wacked in AC3D if you make extreme or bad mesh shapes. My first SE5a had major problems, then I went to new modeing techniques, now I only have trouble where seperate LODS meet in the game... I still have no idea how to fix this... I hope that my transition to max helps with this
