Okay lets say you have a mesh and you don't like the amount of polygons being used on it and you want to maintin the "smoothness" of the object. You can apply a Level Of Detail modifier to it in MAX All you have to do is select your mesh or object. Goto the modify tab click on the "more" button at the top of the modify screen. Go down to "Optimize" and there you go =) You can adjust face threshold value and edge threshold. There is a little radio button there that you can click to maintain the smoothness of the object for wings and things of the such =) Also very good tool to make a very high polygon model and then knock the polygons down to whatever and the hell you want =)
