I know, I know - "what a dumb question", but somehow the soviet horizon does look a bit different (for me). Hmmm look at this please:

I just added a 'CDial object as parent to the gyro. The gyro does only make a 'YTranslate = it shows the pitch, so I set the parent CDial to 'qryRoll and now I think I see the roll angle too. Is this good so far (refering to the pic) ?

What about the needle (painted, not "real" ), what should it show ? The roll angle like in the pic, or should it stay "static"

Please help !

Just to explain why I did it that way - as long as I understand the 'ZRotate function in OP - we would need a whole 128x128 sized texture for the scale ! Thats why...

Laika, Im taking it that the dial with the 0 2 4 6 on it is the pitch? If this is the case shouldnt it be straight up and down? And the little white bar on the pitch dial should just stand still. It seems practical that way. Now as for the 45 45.... the needle should probably be more up towards the top so that the needle actually covers the white marker dashes. These of course are my opinions. But from what Ive seen of aircraft dials, probably accurate.

Whats the white thing laika? Maybe that part is supposed to rotate with roll and the numbers are supposed to go up and down with pitch.

The white thing is a needle. Hmm, still not much wiser, however this the "original" I try to build:

How does that work ?

The long white "line" is the aircraft wing symbol. This is normally "fixed" to the instrument, so it moves with the aircraft itself. The rest of the device is "attached" (not really now, but perhaps back then) to the gyro itself. Your plane appears to be in a left bank, but the little wings show a right bank. To make it indicate properly, the white wing symbol should not tilt (rotate) at all, and should also not move up and down.

The numerical "tape" is the pitch scale. With the aircraft nose above the horizon, the little white wing symbol should be "above" the zero, as it appears in the picture. If you put the nose down, the little wings should appear below the zero.

The white needle and the numerical tape need to be two separate objects by the way. The tape is pivoted the correct direction for the left bank. If it also moves up and down (so that the numbers below the zero are visible) then your attitude "ball" is functioning correctly.

The "zero" is the horizon, if you want to think of it that way, and the wings are...the wings In the picture, your attitude indicator "ball" is showing a left bank, 20 degrees nose up, but the "wings" are showing a right bank.

Confused yet?

No Jedi - I'm not confused ! You explained it very good and , lucky me, thats how I thought it should work !
As I wrote above, the "white needle" is just painted after taking the screenshot - I posted the pic and suddenly -huch- I realized that this instrumentd would be "doubled" in its function.

Thanks Jedi for the "Aircarft Gauges for Dummies" Part I

LK

BTW - this does mean I don't need to remove or re-code or redo anything, the time I spend was not for the closet , just need to add the needle...
