Anyone out there able to understand russian? (which I think the language in the pic below is...)Could you please if you have the time translate the parts marked with red? I think I've understood the main parts of the sentences and numbers but some words of those sentences marked I really can't decipher. Many thanks in advance! IP: Logged |

I can't understand Russian, but I can pronounce it 1st line: Type of aircraft? Mak line: I think it says max speed at 14000ft Kpen(next line): Speed at 1000M(3000ft) the next line after this: maximum range at 195kmh is 1212km and the 'stretched' transit range is 3750-4272km and the last circle: Wing area IP: Logged |

OK - I'll try:Typ: range ocean/sea recon. - ? boat [long range reconaissance ?flying?boat/hydroplane ?] Maximum speed with 14513 Kg (32001 lbs) 283 km/h (175.7 mph) ?in or on water? ? - ? speed at 1000 meters altitude - 234 km/h range (flying) with average speed of 195 km/h - 1212 kilometers, maximum range ? with fuel 3750 liter - 4272 kilometer [I think they mean maximum range with full fuel] wing area 108.5 square meter Hehe - translated from russian to german to english - not that good, maybe you could post a pic ? I'm really interested what kind of a vehicle this is ! Jumo 205 D ? Hmmm...

I think you guys are mostly right... Thanks!!!But the Kpen line could also maybe mean normal cruise altitude and speed. I wonder what it is? The reason I asked about the very last part with 108,5 KB.M is it differs a bit from the 112 sq.m all my others sources claim - but I also do think it still is the wing area despite. Hey Laika, how did you manage to translate the words? Owning a russian lexicon - how come? Oh by the way, nice guess Laika...

I forgot...Snickers JFYI, the Russian designation was probably Catalina - spelled as in the drawing. Most likely had some different local nicknames though that I don't know. //Aui IP: Logged |

Many thanks Poniat! I do think your version is the correct one! And how come you own a russian dictionary? BTW, I see you are from Poland - I have a polish booklet on the BV 138 that I've translated with the help of a polish-swedish dictionary. Took days! And I only translated the most important parts! But there still are some few words (about 10) that I really wood like to have translated. Could I maybe mail them in their sentences to you so if you had the time and wanted could help me? It would really be helpful! About War and Piece... No need. I already have that one - even in swedish. Greetings //Aui [This message has been edited by Aui (edited 08-06-2000).] IP: Logged |

BV 138C-1 Thanks for the offer Whirlwind! I have over 200 pictures and drawings in my books but if you happen to have any cockpit or interior photos I would be very interested! Also any photos of a seaplane tenders catapult in general. (Although I doubt you have any of the above - they seem to be very rare ) //Aui IP: Logged |

I'll look when I get home Would an image of a catapult from a battle ship work? I have one of those. I am not sure about the tender catapult pic, I do have one of a He 59 being towed by a sub (take from the sub itself).IP: Logged |

> Would an image of a catapult from a battle ship work? Yes, that could give me some clues at least! Although I won't come to that part of modeling for a long time it's always nice to have access to the pictures when I do.The sub-towing picture is not necessary. I have 4 of those with BV138s on tow. But thanks anyway. Gracias! IP: Logged |
