see when you guys build stuff. do you build in sections, texture map each bit then assemble it all in opstudio or is it all built as one.

I personally build in one piece. But I keep in mind where the divisions will be so my verts are placed correctly. It doesnt really matter if you texture map it then break it or not. Texture mapping has to be dont a few times on some parts anyway.

I build each part one at a time. I always texture across related parts. I will, for example, texture the let wing and aileron at the same time to get a perfect match, then I seperate the parts again to export. Texture mapping is the most important to pay attention to IMO, and it is also by far the most time consuming aspect of modeling for me.

I always make the map(s) first, then start building the parts. After I replace each part in OPS I fully re-test and back up my aircraft to make sure I don't break anything. If anything goes wrong you MUST catch it early or you will be a very sad person Especially double check that the AI is happy with the transplant

My texture mapping experiences are best when you have a completed model and then you texture map. You can use the model to make your templates for your texture files. Then, you can resize and adjust the pieces to insure that you have maximum resolution. When you are dealing with such small resolutions as 256x256, even a pixel or two can make huge impact on the final product.

I use max, which allows you to select multiple faces in multiple parts and texture them at the same time and have it all match, so I do the texturing last.
