Hi CrossbowArcher,

Airfoil files determine the lift, drag, and moment coeficients that are used when calculating the lift, drag and tourque forces on the aircraft.

The airfoil files is basicaly a look up table relating angle of attack to the correct coef values. There may also be two other airfoil tables that represent the airfoil with a trailing edge control deflectred fully up and fully down - this is how ailerons, elevators and rudders are modeled. I think flaps are modeled by some standard simplified equation or something.

Also the airfoil files contain values to help model the random effects of the stall region or however you say it _

Here you can find my airfoil editor and read a bit more about airfoils. Keep in mind that I am new to this myself, so I bet quite a bit of what I say is boulder-dash
