How are all those new terrain projects going?
I haven't heard anything about that Pacific atoll terrain for a while.

The fixed smd / olc should be able to extract and build
terrain files OK these days.

I loaded dover.sm into AC3D and it seems to
be possible to edit a whole terrain file in AC3D.

Wasn't Tailslide working on some grand canyon
terrain?

I think it would be nice to have a few new
towns and airfields too.

Although new terrain is a big job, it is
in some ways more straight forward than
building new aircraft.

Hi Hippie, I have the grand canyon all sliced and diced into 20 x 20 tiles and lined up. this matches the number of tiles in the default terrains. I ran into trouble with OPS and olc then abandoned it. I can dig it out if you are interested in trying.

I may be starting a new job soon not sure if I can take on a big project right now.

A friend of mine love doing maps for games I am sure that he will be interested in making bigger towns and different terrains. He was talking to me about it today over the phone and he was asking if it was possible to make maps for SDOE and I says: HELL YEAH! He was like cool come over tommorrow and show me. SO I am gonna go over there and show him some basics about terrains. He says he wants to make a small scale of Berlin or some other city in Germany! Tail may I ask one question how do you chop your terrains up into 20x20s and then make it to where it will come out lookin right in SDOE? Can you manually input some coordinates that way you don't have to use ops to position them. That can get kinda laggy! Thanks

What about moving vehicle-convoys ? Attacking static targets gets boring with the time

Some of the things Ive thought about...

Factories with moving conveyor belts, water wheels, oil wells, clock towers that really tell time, etc.

Theres a lot of cool things that could be done for ground objects.

I also think it would be nice to put a klaxon in each airfield. Though the sound priority needs to be decreased so not everyone in the game hears it.

How about chimes on those clock towers Falk....adjusted to the time zone of the map? That will really add to the immersion factor. And don't forget the the oil drips from your conveyor belts.

Joe, the program I used to convert the objects from .dem files did the tiling. Its a commercial program though.

I can tell you where the Midway Terrain is at..
Currently:
Excellent texture map finished
Terrain tiles flattend, and basic Island shape done.
Terrain is texture mapped.

Problems during the making:
Having converted the terrain to water, the texture mapping has vanished and left all the tiles as red water.
Never found out how to place an airstrip where we want it.
Isalnd is also water now, needs specific faces changing back to land.

I haven't looked at the terrain for a while, is was causing me headaches... I just don't know how to do whats left. I might end up having to redo the terrain, not hard, just labourious.

Also, I had alot of trouble getting it to show up as it's own terrain.. dunno why.

Tail: Man how much is that commercial program? Or can I even get it without a commercial license? I guess it would be possible to use an existing terrain and just chop each damned tile as it comes. Screw it maybe I'll try that. Also on the contrary there is a good friend of the family who flies AWACS and I think I can prolly get in touch with him and get the hookup on those geographical maps. Hehe just kinda shhhh bout that we don't need his ass gettin canned! But I will definately look into that. His AWAC division donated some maps of Europe for that game EF2000. Bout them ground objects now. Clock towers that would tell time would probably be very easy just make the clock face a giant gauge and tie it in with the clock. That's almost a no brainer. What I would reallllly love to see is some chooo chooo trains that I can blow the hell out of when I'm RTB and bored. Ones with detachin cars some wicked Dm on the engine and a crazy fool on the caboose with a .50 cal poppin rounds off at you. I also wanna see people run out of the hangars at airfields when I throw a couple of rounds in them. I also want to see them jumped in their planes and "attempt" to get me. That probably won't happen for a while though. Well yall take'd easy now hear?

Hi Joe, it's called PolyTrans.. I think you may be able to tile with the .dem import built in or free plugin on 3dstudio, I can't remember.
