Depends how much its corrupted. Send to me if you like and I'll run it though the debugger and see whats broke, and get it loadable again. If OPS crashed when you were saving then It is probably too far gone I'm afraid. Flack is exactly right, I normally work with a set of files and when I make a significant change I save it as something like Hurrmki_001 then Hurrmki_002 etc etc. I only same it as the real file when I want to test it. I do the same with MAX becuase its dumped on me a few times too many for my liking (after tedious maping sessions which is rather annoying!). I have probably 45 versions of the Hurri-max file quite a few SM versions as well! Bryan

I just checked my SE5a.sm file in source-safe, I have 68 versions Backing up old version is also critical for debugging. By rolling my DVIII back one version at a time I was able to find the exact step where the AI stopped be able to fly it. It was when I removed the mid-wings of the DR1a. This bug would have taken much, much longer to find if I did not save a back-up after every step I took... every step! Version control software really helps here... ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE!

Actually I hadn't thought of using CVS for the SM files and the MAX files even, since they are binary. Its a good idea as it will allow tagging of a version.Even better, (I just thought of this when I read your post) If you actually put the whole aircraft including loadout, hanger, bitmaps and missions and every thing else into CVS (or source safe) you can actually retrieve a set that is frozen at a particular dev cycle. For example you can tag a state of these files as V1_0 and then later you can retrieve V1_0 which will include every thing as it was back then, including dir structure etc. CVS is free, and I have figured it out somewhat, so If anyone wants to go down that route just send me a mail with any questions. Hehehehe, ok I got the wing retracts back. It didnt take me too long to do then as I remembered what I did. But I still need help with the cmdRunReverse thingy to get the reverse sequence right.IP: Logged |

Yeah I also make hella backups of my .sm files for debugging purposes too. Bryan do you think you could include a variable in your program that adds a number to the end of the file everytime you save it and scans the dir for files that may already exist and if they do then it will automatically update to ascend one number. That would be great to include in your program...sorda like an option to select..."Keep Backups". That would be tight!Subaltern FarmerJoe Axis West Three Amigo IP: Logged |
