OK...

The F86 Saber I'm working on is progressing "nicely".

So well so, that I've taken to futzing with the FM of it as a break of sorts from the modeling/texturing aspect of it (don't worry .. I'll be right back at it in a jiff!)

Here's my problem:

The engine for the F86 I'm modeling is rate at 5200 lbs. of thrust @ 7950 RPMs ... My question is ...

... Seeing as FS only models output values in HP and RMPs (or torque)... HTF does one convert "thrust" into horsepower!?

HEEEELP!

Heheh
Find the equivalent prop specs for the fans inside the sabres engine. Then rotate the shaft as many rpm's as in real life.

Two seconds to say, two weeks to accomplish

If you happen to have Hoerner's "Drag Bible"
there's an example in there on how to convert HP to thrust on a Me109. Same applies to your 86 but in reverse. Getting the fan specs should be most of the work.

WHOOHOO!

"Ask and ye shall find!

I visited the Pratt & Whittney website and found that to get a close "approximation" of Horsepower from a thrust output use the following:

MAX THRUST x .62 = HP

... At least now I'll be in the ballpark and can tweak from there!

THANKS GUYS!

Zur, I don't know if you followed this when I was doing work on the P80, but I heard that MH was doing some code to model jet engines. It's kinda why I lost interest in doing more tweaks on the 'Star until this code is in place.

You've already made way more progress here than I did, so go for it!

... Pang,

Yeah, I followed ...

I figure I can do as much as I can now and incorporate the "jet-engine" stuff if/when it does finally make an appearance.

I tried it last night ... worked like a champ! I did have to give the engine 30 blades however! (also had to add 300lbs. to the prop to simulate spool-up).. or it would literaly "JUMP" into the sky!

Spool up weight, what a great idea!! You're way too smart, Zur.
