I've witnessed a few times RC aircraft that lose their wings. I bet those of you who fly RC planes have seen the same things too. What got me thinking is that when that has happened, there's been plenty of time to collect all pieces of the fuselage, engine, stabiliser, landing gear, etc. before the wing comes down. The wing very soon after detaching from the aircraft begins rotating along its axis (rotation approx around the main beam through the wing.) This rotation seems to be kept alive by the speed of the wing, and the rotation also seems to slow down the descent and instead make it move forward and in a slow circle.SDOE wings do not do that. Why? Should they not? _ /Bjorn. IP: Logged |

Well one thing about R/C wings is that they tend to break off in one piece, this helps keep them stable. In SDOE the wing break in half. Now if you look at the airPOint you will see that this is not at the span-wise CG. Because of this the wing will be less stable (tumble) or fall more like a rock in a stable but up and down attitude. Also I think that there was a fix made in the patch to kill the "happy airfoil"... remember when wings would detach and then zip around all over the place in a spaztic way? I think they even climbed! I'm not sure what the exact fix was, but maybe this is hurting the "broken wing" FM. ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE!

In the guncam footage I've seen the wings didn't do this maybe becuase they were heavy with fuel and ammo, guns on the inside part. With a balsa glider I've seen this tho. TS

I think the reason they don't do this is due to the way they used to fly around forever prior to the patch. Michael fixed them so they wouldn't do that, or rarely do that.IP: Logged | |
