How do you make skins in a higher resolution. I have tried in Paint Shop Pro 6.1 (unregistered). All I did was use one of my template cut-outs, Increase the resolution, draw the skin then save. Saved to correct folder etc. I'm doing this to see if it looks good. If a solution arises then I might try it for terrain. (that'll be a real frame-rate sucker). probably won't have enough video memory also. Cheers.IP: Logged |

If your lucky DanW will see this. He did some beautiful P-38 hi-res skins, but he has a new job which keeps him away from the board most of the time.I don't know much about it but I think you have to remap the plane. If you see a P-38mod in your Aircraft folder it's for Dan's skins. IP: Logged |

Hmmm - does it not work ??? I think you dont need to remodel anything. You had to take care of the file-format, the "shape" of the texture and maybe some transparency things. But it should work !?LK IP: Logged |

No, unfortunatly it won't work. First of all you would have to change the texture reference size in the sm-file - but as SDOE doesn't support textures bigger than 256x256 (if it is fed one it just resizes the texture back to this size) it wouldn't help. The reason I guess is because the graphics engine is quite old and was written to be compatible with some graphic cards (older Voodoos for example). Dan got around this by using several 256x256 textures for one plane and that requires re-texturing of the model //AuiIP: Logged |

Yes, you need to re-texture the model. Most of the WWI planes use several 256x256 sheets, this gives you nice resolution but eats up texture memory.Texture mapping a plane is like 85% of the total modeling work, so re-texturing is a big deal ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE!

strangely, SDOE does support textures larger than 256*256... so, just increase the texture size if you want higher res. only thing is it might cost your in FPS, I know it works because I've done it. This is not to say that SDOE wont shrink the texture to fit, I'm sure it does, but you can create a more detailed texture at a higher res and still get better effects then before even after SDOE fits it to size.I used to do alot of high detail skins with some nice effects from Photoshop, and I'm pretty sure they still look good when shrunk back down to the 256 by SDOE, but I'd never have gotten the same effects trying to work at 256*256. Try it anyway, you might be supprised at how it turns out ~Nat~

I find that increasing the pixels per inch will give you higher resolution too.I've recently been looking at some of the WW2 Fighters templates and noticed that the textures are only done in 8-bit 256 colors. When I have a chance I want to experiment with some of the skins I've done and try them at 8bit/256 colors instead of 16 million colors. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Oh, I didn't know that textures larger 256x256 are shrinked back to 256x256. Sorry !Be carefull remapping could be painful ! LK IP: Logged |

Cheers people. I know what the problem is. And I'll try a few of your methods.IP: Logged |
