AC3D and Voodoo3

My AC3D is mostly dead now that I have upgraded my system. Here is a response from AC3D's author, Andy:

Is anyone else here using or planing to use AC3D with a voodoo3 card? Voodoo3 is working SO nice for all the sims, I would hate to have to revert back to my Elsa Erazor III TNT2 card... 1/2 the FPS and not nearly as pretty - plus it does not support glide...

I miss modeling

I'm using Voodoo3 and AC3D. The only problem I have is that, when I first start AC3D, I usually have to close it and restart a couple of times to get all four view windows to appear correctly. After that, it works fine.

Using AC3D Beta 7 and 3dfx drivers from about 3-4 months ago, Hippie's plug-ins from a month ago, V3 3000 and 128Meg RAM on my machine.

Maybe a fresh install of all the AC3D stuff and plug-ins would put things right? I can zip up my whole AC3D installation and send it to you, but that would be a big email

Hmm....

I seem to recall that there is some proggie called GLSetup out there somewhere that supposedly installs the "latest and greatest" GL stuff for your particular card.

I think I saw mention of it at www.bluesnews.com

Hope it helps! (BTW ... My Geforce card works flawlessly with AC3D hehehehe)

Jedi,

When you use a background image, can you zoom out far? Mine hangs and then kills that ortho window

If I start up the shareware AC3D, then the beta, then kill both, then start the beta again I see all ortho windows. But over time (maybe 1/2 hour of work) I inevitably loose windows again. I am used to this problem and can work with it, but I can not work without background images

Interesting Zur... sounds risky heheh. I do have the latest beta drivers installed as far as I know. I did here there is some sort of "leak"and that I can run voodoo4 drivers with my voodoo3 card, anyone else here this?

GLSetup just makes sure all your opengl drivers are up to date. It works great. http://www.glsetup.com As far as the voodoo3 drivers being only tested on games like quake I have to say that I know for a fact that they were also tested and kick arse in 3dsmax also.

Hmmm. It appears that I can't use a background image at all But I don't usually use one anyway. I prefer to just get the dimensions right using the little squares, and then "eyeball" the shapes using photos.

One thing I think might work is to use your little trick for texture-mapping: make a square object, load the .tif file (.bmp works too) of your background image onto it.

SV,

If you don't play any OpenGL games you
might be able to do some hacking and remove
the 3DFX OpenGL drivers and run OpenGL
in software mode. I did this with the
Rendition drivers on my old system, but
I can't tell you exactly what to do for a
Voodoo 3.

Hippie.

That is interesting Hippie... can you explain a little more?

I just went through the hell of installing the leaked Voodoo5 drivers that are known to work on Voodoo3 cards. These drivers are supposed to be much better and maybe even faster.

I got the driver working, but AC3D still dies

This kinda sucks. My choices are to either roll back to my slow ugly Elsa TNT2 or give up AC3D. AC3D used to work with my TNT2 but then died. Maybe a fresh install will fix it... but thge Voodoo3 is so sweet! I will also lose my ability to run glide games like RB3D and Need for Speed

Double Sigh

Spanky here....

Actually I used GLsetup to upgrade my drivers for playing the Soldier of fortune demo.

Before I did that Ac3d worked fine. After I upgraded them they didn't. Even after I uninstalled glsetup ac3d still wouldn't work.

I never got ac3d working again till I reinstalled windows.

I'm using GL with 3ds max and it works just fine. its OpenGL microsoft 1.1.0

I played with all kinds of gl drivers 3dfx and microsoft. None ever worked. even ones that worked for other people.

If you want a copy of my Opengl.Dll SV let me know. It seems to be working but I don't use Ac3d cause I just can't depend on it to work everytime.

I wonder why 3ds works fine but ac3d doesn't?

Its not cause of any 3dfx drivers in my mind. I think its more likely Ac3d.

What does OPS use for its rendering?
cause it works fine too.
